Saint Vincent senior swimmer Jacob Dzurica came home with three All-American nods from the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis.

Dzurica, a Hempfield graduate, earned All-American honors in the 50-yard freestyle (19.79 seconds) as he finished fourth, the 100-yard freestyle (44.01), good enough for seventh — he swam a school-record 43.80 in prelims — and an honorable mention in the 100-yard backstroke with a 14th-place finish (48.83).

Wrestling

Army: Senior Ethan Bergic (Jeannette/Hempfield) saw his college career end at the NCAA championships.

The 133-pounder and No. 14 seed went 1-2 as the fifth four-time NCAA qualifier in program history.

Pitt: Redshirt junior Dylan Pitzer (Mt. Pleasant) reached the Round of 12 at the NCAA cChampionships in Cleveland. The heavyweight finished one win away from becoming an All-American.

He opened with a 3-2 decision over Spencer Lanosga of Navy, then went 2-2 in the consolation round.

Redshirt junior Chase Kranitz (Norwin) went 1-2 at 184 pounds.

Wyoming: Grad student Gabe Willochell (Latrobe) came up one win shy of All-American status, finishing 3-2 at the NCAA championships in Cleveland.

The No. 21 seed, Willochell defeated No. 6 Caleb Tyus of SIU-Edwardsville and No. 14 Caleb Rathjen.

Freshman Luke Willochell (Latrobe) lost his first two matches at nationals.

Women’s bowling

Saint Vincent: After winning its second straight AMCC championship, Saint Vincent is headed back to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.

The top-seeded Bearcats (45-3) defeated No. 3 Alvernia, 2-0, in a best-of-three series to claim the conference.

Sophomore Lilly Houle and junior Daphne Stuber were named to the all-tournament team. Houle averaged 218.3 in traditional games in the event, and Stuber had a 200.8 average over 24 Baker games.

SVC has the highest winning percentage in the country at .938.

The NCAA selection show will be Wednesday. The NCAA Tournament is set for April 2-5.

Men’s basketball

John Carroll: Sophomore guard Tyree Turner (Greensburg Central Catholic) is entering the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons at JCU.

This season, he appeared in 18 games, playing an average of 4.2 minutes, and had 34 points, 17 rebounds and seven steals.

As a freshman, he played in four games.

Baseball

Penn State Behrend: Senior catcher Thomas Nicely (Franklin Regional) went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs as the Lions defeated Penn State Altoona, 8-3.

The homer was the fifth of his career.

Pitt-Greensburg: The Bobcats swept Pitt-Bradford, 10-0 and 7-5.

In the opener, senior Tommy Smith homered, junior Colby Rearick went 3 for 4 with a triple and two doubles, sophomore Jonah Marks doubled and drove in three and junior Conner Burkey (Hempfield) pitched a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Senior Hunter Gideons homered and had three RBIs, senior Neo Miller tripled and Marks had two hits in the second game for the Bobcats (3-9).

Saint Vincent: Junior Nolan Hurd had two hits and two RBI, sophomore Isiah Petty doubled and freshman Jason Forgey pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, striking out six, as the Bearcats shut out Bethany, 4-0.

Forgey earned PAC Newcomeer of the Week honors.

Seton Hill: Sophomore Brady McGuire homered and drove in five runs, and freshman Mason Metz had three hits and two RBIs as the Griffins defeated Slippery Rock, 12-6, in the PSAC West opener. It was the first win in a four-game sweep.

A 10-7 win over the Rock followed for the Griffins (14-5, 2-0) as McGuire, junior Owen Henne, senior Colin Ahr, Metz and grad student Nate Dorinsky had two hits each.

Grad student Christian Zilli (Hempfield) earned the save.

Senior Jack Whalen and Dorinsky had two hits each, and McGuire added three RBIs in a 7-3 win in the third game of the series. Game 4 saw Whalen deliver three hits, Owen Henne had two hits and four RBIs and Zilli earned the win after two scoreless innings.

Junior Zach Herb picked up two saves in Sunday’s doubleheader.

Some notables from the Rock series: McGuire was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week, and Whalen became the ninth player in program history to reach 200 career hits.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Keegan Carr (Norwin), an IUP transfer, went 4 for 5 with an RBI to help power the Presidents to their fifth straight win, 14-2 victory over Marietta.

Waynesburg: Senior pitcher Ethan Erhard (Hempfield) worked four shutout innings and struck out six, but the Yellow Jackets lost to Allegheny, 3-2.

Softball

Cal (Pa.): Sophomore Amarah McCutcheon (Southmoreland) hit a solo home run as the Vulcans beat IUP, 6-1.

Last season, McCutcheon hit 12 homers and drove in 36 runs.

Kent State: Freshman Ciara Camacho (Franklin Regional) hit her first college home run and drove in two runs in a 7-1 win over Buffalo.

Another freshman, Riley Miller (Hempfield), earned the complete-game win, allowing one earned run while walking one and inducing 12 groundouts.

Robert Morris: Redshirt junior Courtney Poulich (Mt. Pleasant) delivered her 100th career hit, her 11th home run of the season, as the Colonials beat Green Bay, 10-6.

Poulich ripped a two-run homer to make it 6-1. She now has 33 RBIs, three away from the program record.

Redshirt freshman Madison Brown (Southmoreland) earned her second save of the season.

RMU followed with a 7-5 win to sweep Green Bay as Poulich doubled and Brown earned her fourth win, tossing 3 1/3 innings in middle relief.

Poulich has reached the century mark in three offensive categories: hits (104), runs (104) and RBIs (109) in 111 career games.

Seton Hill: Junior Lacey Lynn pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out six as the Griffins blanked Pitt-Johnstown, 1-0.

Sophomore Anna Kalkowski had two hits, and sophomore Abby Dejidas doubled and had the lone RBI for Seton Hill (8-12, 1-1 PSAC West).

Senior Mia Smith (Penn-Trafford) doubled for UPJ.

Lynn, who went 2-0 with two complete games, was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Westminster: Freshman Kylie Anthony went 2 for 3 with two walks and a run, and sophomore pitcher Cheyenne Piper (Ligonier Valley) won her fourth straight start, moving to 4-2, as the Titans toppled Geneva, 7-1.

Piper allowed three hits, struck out 10 and walked one in the complete game. She added a save in the second game, a 5-1 victory.

Piper was named the PAC Pitcher of the Week.

Women’s track & field

Auburn: Freshman Sophia Mazzoni (Derry) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 51.18 meters at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational.

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Grace Neubert broke the program record in the 1,500-meter run and placed fourth with a time of 4 minutes, 41.40 seconds at the outdoor season-opening Washington & Lee Carnival.

The 400-meter relay of sophomore Amanda Kane, sophomore Gabrielle Dove, sophomore Madelyn Hopsicker and junior Caroline Kozera also set a school record and took second with a mark of 50.33 seconds.

Westminster: Sophomore Grace Iwig (Hempfield) earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. She had the No. 5 best height in the region this season in the pole vault (3.68 meters).

Men’s track & field

Penn State Behrend: Sophomore Carter Tobin (Norwin) won the 60-meter dash at the All-Atlantic Region Championship in New York City. He posted a personal-best and school-record time of 6.81 seconds.

Tobin also finished fourth in the 200.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Daniel Maddock (Norwin) broke the program record in the 100-meter dash at the Washington & Lee Carnival with a time of 11.08 seconds. He finished 11th.

Senior Jalani Campbell set a team record in the triple jump at 12.52 meters to place sixth, and senior Jordan Raynor took third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:52.04, and sophomore Will Stickman took fifth in the 1,500 meters at 2:00.23.

Another school record also fell in the 400 relay as junior P.J. Neal, Maddock, Campbell and freshman Bailey Simon came in third at 42.67 seconds.

Men’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Reed Hunt scored with 12:04 left in the fourth quarter on an assist from Neal Ritchie as the Bearcats clipped Muskingum, 11-10.

Washington & Jefferson: Senior captain Braden Petrarco (Norwin) recorded a hat trick and added five ground balls in a 9-8 win over Hiram in overtime.

Petrarco assisted on the golden goal to cap a thrilling PAC opener.

Westminster: Freshman Garrett Henning (Norwin) scored his second college goal in a 29-4 win over Spalding. Seventeen Titans scored in the win.

Women’s lacrosse

Grove City: Junior Gwen Shilling (Franklin Regional) scored four goals as the Wolverines posted their fourth straight win, 16-11 over Washington & Jefferson.

Men’s volleyball

Grove City: Junior Carson Good had seven kills, and sophomore Keith Otto had three blocks but the Wolverines fell to Saint Vincent, 3-0, in PAC action.

Grove City bounced back with a 3-0 win over Geneva as Good put down 10 kills, junior Andrew Kessler (Penn-Trafford) added nine and Otto registered a season-high 18 digs.

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats (12-2, 8-0 PAC) remained one of the hottest teams in Division III as they ran their winning streak to 13 with a 3-0 win over Hiram.

Senior Zebadiah Wyant had 14 kills, and senior Shawn McSwiggen added 13. Freshman Jack Ryan had 30 assists.

McSwiggen was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Ryan picked up the conference newcomer of the week, his fourth such honor in five weeks.

Men’s golf

West Virginia: Sophomore Nick Turowski (Penn-Trafford) finished the three-round Schenkel Invitational at 7-over-par 218 with rounds of 72, 71 and 75 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. He helped WVU finish third overall at 16-under 848.

Equestrian

Seton Hill: The Griffins won their third straight region title, ending the regular season with a reserve champion finish at IUP.

Senior Lauryn Johnson was first in her limit flat class.

Seton Hill, which has eight region titles in nine years, will compete at the zone championships April 4 at Lehman Farms in Pittsford, N.Y.

Some individual riders will go to the regional championship meet March 29 at Storm Harbor Equestrian Center to compete for individual spots at the zone meet. The riders are freshman Auggie Ingwalson, sophomore Annabelle Sciulli, junior Cassidy Kennedy (Serra Catholic/Belle Vernon) and sophomore Lily Douglass.
