Section series around WPIAL baseball will continue Tuesday, if their Monday game was somehow played, or will begin Tuesday if Monday was postponed.
Section 3-3A took sharing a section championship to the extreme in 2025.
Five teams finished tied for first place for a very rare quintuple championship.
Freeport, Burrell, Mt. Pleasant, Ligonier Valley and Deer Lakes all finished with 8-4 section records, proving their section indeed was balanced.
Two of those five teams are squaring off in the first section series of the season.
On Tuesday, Freeport visits Mt. Pleasant at 4 p.m.
The other games in that section includes Burrell at Yough at 4 p.m. and Deer Lakes visiting Southmoreland at 4 p.m.
Yough finished 2-10 in the section last spring and Southmoreland was 0-12.
Softball slate
Not including games postponed from Monday, there are a handful of WPIAL softball section games slated for Tuesday, including a couple between 2025 postseason teams.
In Section 4-5A, the two top teams from a year ago are set to collide when Thomas Jefferson visits Baldwin.
The defending section champion Jaguars are off to a 2-1 start while the second-place Highlanders are also 2-1 heading into their section opener.
In Class 4A, 2025 Section 2-4A winner Elizabeth Forward welcomes Uniontown in a section lid lifter.
The Warriors are 1-1 this season while the Red Raiders enter their first road game with a 2-0 overall record.
Volleyball section opener
Section play for many WPIAL boys volleyball teams will begin Thursday; however, the first section match of the new season is scheduled for Tuesday.
It is a Section 4-3A contest as Fox Chapel visits Penn Hills.
The Foxes are 1-1 in nonsection action this season while the Indians are 0-2.
Both teams missed the playoffs a year ago with Fox Chapel finishing fourth in the section at 5-10 overall and Penn Hills ending up last with a 4-11 mark.
