Grady Ruffner hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to lead Latrobe to a 13-12 victory over Penn-Trafford in a Section 1-5A baseball slugfest Monday.

Cole Short went 4 for 6 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs and Noah Noel went 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI for the Wildcats (4-0, 1-0). Nico Casciato went 3 for 5 with a double, triple, home run and four RBIs for the Warriors (2-1, 0-1).

Aquinas Academy 19, Summit Academy 1 – Brendan Roney and Ian Patterson each doubled and drove in four runs and Henry Hynds doubled, tripled and knocked in two runs to lead Aquinas Academy (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win over Summit Academy (0-1, 0-1). Jonah Burchill had two hits and three RBIs and Jackson Stanton singled, tripled and plated a pair for the Crusaders.

Bishop Canevin 9, Sewickley Academy 8 – JT Healey hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Jackson Maddix went 3 for 3 with two homers and six RBIs to send Bishop Canevin (1-3, 1-0) to a Section 3-A victory. Billy Pietrogallo went 2 for 2 with a homer and Carter Jackson and Logan Berezney each had two doubles for Sewickley Academy (0-1, 0-1).

Deer Lakes 10, Southmoreland 0 – Andrew Connelly threw five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and also doubled and drove in a run to lead Deer Lakes (1-4, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Eli Misera singled, tripled and drove in three runs, James Gall doubled and knocked in two runs and AJ Reiher had a double and an RBI for the Lancers. Bryan Williams singled and doubled for Southmoreland (0-2, 0-1).

Green County Tech 15, Avonworth 2 – Kannon Ring went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs to lead Greene County Tech in Myrtle Beach. Cooper Scharding singled, doubled and drove in a run and Carson Franc also singled and doubled for Avonworth (1-3).

Ligonier Valley 13, McGuffey 4 – Miles Smith singled, tripled and drove in four runs and winning pitcher Austin Harr went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI to lead Ligonier Valley (2-0) to a nonsection win. Noah Knupp and Anthony Petalino each had two hits and an RBI for the Rams. Preston Hornak tripled twice and drove in a pair of runs for McGuffey (0-2).

New Castle 19, Clayton (NJ) 0 – Alex Rodgers went 3 for 3 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs, Dominic Miller went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs and Phillip Laurenza went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead New Castle (4-0) in Myrtle Beach.

Plum 9, Armstrong 3 – Max Vollmer went 3 for 5 with a double, homer and five RBIs to lead Plum to a Section 1-5A victory. Andrew Monaco went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Mustangs (5-0, 1-0). Kaden Rupp went 2 for 3 with a home run for the River Hawks (0-2, 0-1).

Serra Catholic 15, Monessen 0 – Liam Sommerer threw a three-inning no-hitter, Jake Anderson singled, doubled and drove in four runs and Bodi Regner added a pair of RBIs for Serra Catholic (3-1, 1-0) in a Section 3-A win over Monessen (0-1, 0-1).

Saint Viator (IL) 4, Montour 0 – Frank Clary threw 6⅓ scoreless innings to lead Saint Viator (IL) in St. Petersburg, Fla. Matteo Weber, Tyler Puffer, Sal Magliocco and Lane Martinec had base hits for Montour (2-1).

Chartiers-Houston 13, Serra Catholic 0 – Sophia Robinson went 3 for 3 with three doubles and two RBIs and Taryne Drilak threw five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a nonsection win for Chartiers-Houston (4-0). Aubree Randolph and Kiera Drilak doubled and drove in run, Seanna Riggle had a triple and an RBI and Brooklyn Hess went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Bucs. Giana Foster had two hits for Serra Cartholic (0-3).

Connellsville 20, Latrobe 10 – Halle Parfitt went 2 for 2 with a double and four RBIs and Addison Smith and Rylee Dreves each went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs to power Connellsville (3-1) to a nonsection win. Kalyn Cole singled, doubled and drove in two runs, Molly Greenwalt had a single, double and RBI and Maggie Orndorff went 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Falcons. Morgantown 9, Carmichaels 3 – Winning pitcher Madison Wisman struck out 13 and went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Morgantown to a nonsection win. Ke’lani Chun went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Carmichaels (1-2).

New Castle 15, Penn Hills 0 – Mikayla Young threw a three-inning no-hitter and Chloe Stalnecker singled, doubled and drove in three runs to lead New Castle (4-0, 2-0) to a Section 1-5A win over Penn Hills (0-2, 0-1). Zoe Shields went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs and Gabby Mangieri and Mikayla DiGennaro each doubled and knocked in two runs for the Red Hurricanes.

Steel Valley 18, Woodland Hills 1 – Ana Wehrer tripled and drove in four runs and Aubrey Guciardo tripled and knocked in two for Steel Valley (2-0) in a nonsection win. Morelle Rauenzahn singled and drove in a run for Woodland Hills (0-2).

Stevenson 7, Avonworth 0 – Ava Potempa threw a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead Stevenson in Myrtle Beach. Alexandra Savatt went 2 for 2 for Avonworth (1-2).

Waynesburg 8, Coventry 0 – Gina Tedrow threw a six-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Waynesburg (1-0) in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Ellie Makel went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Eva Pester also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Raiders.

West Shamokin 15, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Leah Mondi threw a three-inning one-hitter to lead West Shamokin to a nonsection win. Josalin McCauley had a base hit for Apollo-Ridge (0-2).

Boys volleyball

Canon-McMillan 3, Central Catholic 1 – Henry Klinar had 10 kills and Landon Paterson added eight kills and four blocks to lead Canon-McMillan to a nonsection win. Aydin Winkleblech handed out 22 assists, Sean Walker added five kills and three blocks, Josh Fisher had seven digs and Ryan Wandera added six digs for the Big Macs.

Derry 3, Bishop Guilfoyle 1 – Caden Marsh had 16 kills, John Kerin recorded 27 digs and Landon Campbell dished out 36 assists to lead Derry to a nonsection victory.

Girls lacrosse

Peters Township 14, Plum 12 – Dana Anderson and Abby Yates scored four goals apiece to lead Peters Township to a nonsection win. Ella Pedley scored three goals, Natalie Wagner had two goals and an assist and Carly Venanzi added a goal and an assist for Plum.

Flag football

Mars 46, Nazareth Prep 12 – Miley Gratton had two touchdowns and Gemma Fratto, MacKenzie Powell, Shelby Jazbinsek, Arianna Rhedrick and Reese Vuckovich also scored in a Section 1 win for Mars.

North Hills 39, South Fayette 24 – Emerson Schall threw five touchdown passes and returned a punt for another score to lead North Hills to a nonsection win. Sofia Rodriguez caught four touchdown passes and scored on a pick-six and Megan Holmes also had a TD catch for North Hills.

Plum 28, Kiski Area 18 – Kaiden Young threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns and Tamia West made eight catches for 101 yards and two scores to lead Plum to a nonsection win. Caydence Morgan scored two touchdowns and Hayden Wawryzniak intercepted a pass for the Mustangs.
