Part of Valley Green Drive in Hempfield is set to close starting Monday.

The road will be replaced as developers continue work building houses at the former Valley Green Golf & Country Club. Don Tarosky Jr., a partner with Valley Green Westmoreland LLC, said motorists will not be able to use the connector to get between Brinkerton and Albrights Lake roads during the closure.

Tarosky said the section of Valley Green Drive will be completely closed for the first few weeks. After that, the road may reopen in phases while reconstruction continues.

The new road will have a sidewalk, curbs and storm drains, he said, as well as traffic calming measures. The developers are footing the bill for the road reconstruction.

Work creating the development has been ongoing for the last couple years by RWS Shuster Homes.

The former 18-hole course, in Unity and Hempfield, closed in 2019 after 54 years in business.

Zoning changes at the former golf course were approved in 2021 by Hempfield and Unity supervisors. Sixty lots are being built in the first phase on the Hempfield side. The homes start in the high $400s.
