Three of the state’s 12 districts hoarded all the boys basketball gold with the conclusion of the 2026 PIAA championships in Hershey.
We mentioned last week the success of District 12, made up of schools from the Philadelphia Catholic League and the Philadelphia Public League.
Its domination continued this season with three PIAA championships after state title game wins from Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast in Class 5A, Devon Prep in 4A and Sankofa-Freedom in A.
District 3 from the Harrisburg area collected two PIAA crowns with Central Dauphin in 6A and Camp Hill Trinity in 3A posting championship game wins over a pair of D-12 opponents.
Finally, the WPIAL was represented in the winner’s circle by Sewickley Academy with a victory in the PIAA 2A finals.
That left teams from Districts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11 waiting to strike gold in 2027.
At the finals in Hershey, all of the Trib HSSN No. 1 ranked teams in the state defeated the No. 2 teams with the exception of Central Dauphin stunning perennial state PIAA power Imhotep Charter in the Class 6A title game.
