If weather permits, four undefeated WPIAL Class 5A softball teams will face still challenges to their perfect record in section action Friday afternoon.

In Section 1-5A, New Castle remains perfect at 2-0 in the section and 5-0 overall as it hits the road for the first time in 2026 with a trip to Fox Chapel.

The Foxes are 1-1 in section play and 3-1 for the season.

In Section 2-5A, Kiski Area is 1-0 in the section and 4-0 this season as it hits the road to Armstrong.

The River Hawks are 2-0 atop the section and 2-2 overall.

In Section 3-5A, in a small sample size, West Allegheny is off to a 2-0 start and has outscored its two opponents, 21-5, as it prepares to open up section play with a trip next door to Montour.

The Spartans are 2-1 overall this young season.

Finally in Section 4-5A, red-hot Trinity is 6-0 to begin the season, including a 1-0 record in section as it prepares to host Thomas Jefferson.

The Jaguars are 2-0 in section play and 3-1 for the season.

Loaded up top

There are seven teams in Section 2-4A softball. The top four teams currently are a combined 12-1 this season.

Two of the undefeated teams are set to square off Friday when West Mifflin hosts Uniontown.

The Titans won their section opener earlier this week over Belle Vernon and are off to a 5-0 start this season.

Coach Erik Hilligsberg celebrated his 101st career victory Wednesday in a nonsection win over Burrell.

The Red Raiders are also 1-0 in the section, also defeating Belle Vernon, 5-1. Uniontown is 3-0 overall this season.

A year ago, West Mifflin finished in second place behind Elizabeth Forward, one game ahead of third-place Uniontown.

The Titans won both games against the Red Raiders by scores of 6-2 and 1-0.

Rivalry renewed

Much has been made of the North Hills-North Allegheny football rivalry being started back up come Week Zero of the 2026 season.

Well, five months before that event takes place, the girls will beat the boys to the punch.

On Friday, North Hills visits North Allegheny in a district girls flag football game at Newman Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Indians are a perfect 2-0 this spring with victories over South Fayette and Seneca Valley.

The Tigers are also undefeated with a 4-0 record following wins over Kiski Area, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel and Valley.
