Sheetz announced it will provide free transit on the T and Monongahela Incline during the upcoming NFL Draft to make travel easier for fans and visitors.

The announcement was made in partnership with Pittsburgh Regional Transit on Friday.

Free rides will be available from Thursday, April 23, to Saturday, April 25, and Sheetz will cover all fares on the T, including the Red, Blue and Silver lines, as well as the Monongahela Incline.

“Public transit will play a critical role in the success of the draft, and we’re proud to partner with Sheetz to offer free rides directly to the heart of the event,” PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman said.

Officials expect 500,000 to 700,000 people to attend the draft in Pittsburgh.

The T is already free between stops in Downtown Pittsburgh and the North Shore, but this partnership will cover all rides on the light rail lines.

Sheetz, which has been part of the Pittsburgh community for more than 40 years, said it’s excited to support the Steel City for such a big event.

“Pittsburgh is about to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors, and we know getting around is top of mind for everyone,” said Ryan Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing and supply chain for Sheetz. “This weekend is all about the fans and this great city that is bringing them together. … We’re helping make it easier for everyone to get around so they can focus on enjoying the experience.”

During draft weekend, select PRT trains will feature Sheetz-branded elements celebrating the city, the announcement said. The company will also have fan activations like giveaways, mascot appearances and social media engagement opportunities for riders.

“Today’s announcement shows what’s possible when the private sector supports public infrastructure in a meaningful way,” said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. “Offering free fares makes public transit an even more accessible option for everyone coming to the draft.”
