The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Rutger McGroarty from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday.
In corresponding transactions, the team assigned forward Avery Hayes and Joona Koppanen to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
McGroarty has split the season between the NHL and AHL levels. With the NHL club, he has appeared in 20 games and scored five points (two goals, three assists) while averaging 11 minutes, 49 seconds of ice time.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, McGroarty has skated in 25 contests and posted 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists).
A left-handed shot, McGroarty (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $950,000
Hayes, a rookie, has appeared in 11 NHL games this season and scored two goals while averaging 10:37.
At the AHL level, Hayes has appeared in 38 contests and posted 32 points, including a team-leading 20 goals.
A right-handed shot, Hayes (5-10, 180) is in the first year of a two-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $830,000.
Koppanen has played in 10 NHL games this season and posted one assist while clocking an average of 12:28 of ice time.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Koppanen has skated in 37 games and posted 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists).
The left-handed Koppanen (6-5, 216) is signed to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
