A goal and three assists by forward Tanner Howe led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-1 win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Linemates Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Joona Koppanen each had a goal and two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (41-16-6-2), which has won four consecutive games.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist improved his record to 13-5-4 by making 30 saves on 31 shots.

Highlights:

Penguins forward Avery Hayes was a healthy scratch, possibly for a potential recall to the NHL roster.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Phantoms on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


The Wheeling Nailers matched a season-best winning streak with their eighth consecutive victory, a 4-1 win against the Worcester Railers at WesBanco Arena.

They previously won eight consecutive games between Oct. 26 and Nov. 15.

Forward Matthew Quercia scored two goals for Wheeling (42-16-3-3) on Sunday while defenseman Tristan Thompson recorded two assists.

Goaltender Maxim Pavlenko recorded the win, improving his record to 15-9-0. He stopped all five shots he faced in the first period but left the contest to open the second period as a result of a collision.

Pavlenko was replaced by goaltender Taylor Gauthier, who made 32 saves on 33 shots over the final 40 minutes of regulation.
