The person fatally shot in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood early Sunday was a 23-year-old Bellevue man, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office announced.

Pittsburgh police found the victim, later identified as Amaree K. Dawson, at South 18th and East Carson streets after responding to a pair of ShotSpotter alerts around 2:30 a.m. The gunshot detection system recorded that at least eight shots were fired.

First responders rushed Dawson to UPMC Mercy hospital. He died there 20 minutes after the shooting was first reported.

Dawson’s killing was the second of a pair of shootings early Sunday in the city’s largest entertainment district.

Earlier Sunday morning, just after midnight, a man was shot multiple times in an alleged road-rage incident near Bingham Street, police said.

Responding officers found the man, who authorities have not named, near South 15th and Bingham streets. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police later arrested Devin Maurice Singleton, 25, of Pittsburgh in connection with the midnight shooting.

Pittsburgh police Chief Jason Lando told TribLive news partner WTAE that the road rage incident appeared unrelated to the fatal shooting that occurred in South Side later that morning.

Singleton was charged with a single count of aggravated assault.

The suspect was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and arraigned Sunday night, court records show. A judge denied him bail, noting in the court record that Singleton “poses a threat to the victim, witnesses and community.”

Singleton’s preliminary hearing is set for April 8. His attorney was not listed early Monday in court records.
