Following news Tuesday that Pitt’s Brandin Cummings plans to enter the transfer portal, a second Panthers men’s basketball player is preparing to do the same.

Forward Papa Amadou Kante, who will be a redshirt junior for 2026-27, has also informed the Panthers of his intentions to enter the portal upon the window opening from April 7-21, a source confirmed to TribLive.

Kante, a 6-foot-10 player from Senegal, was limited to eight games off the bench this season. Knee surgery sidelined Kante in early January, at which point he was averaging 2.8 points, 5.4 rebounds per game and 14.1 minutes per game.

Kante also saw his 2023-24 campaign derailed by knee surgery, while the following season, he made 22 appearances for the Panthers, all off the bench, contributing 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Having moved from Senegal to the U.S. in 2019, Kante attended the South Kent School in Kent, Conn., before joining Pitt as a four-star recruit in 2023.
