Twenty-two girls flag football players from the WPIAL and City League will represent the Steelers at the third annual Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) Big 33 girls flag football tournament May 23-24 as part of the 69th Big 33 Football Classic.

The Steelers team will take on teams representing the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders at Cumberland Valley School District’s Mountain View Middle School and Chapman Field in Cumberland County.

Selected for the Steelers team were Sto-Rox’s Arianna Johnston (quarterback); Ellis School’s Angelina Jones (quarterback) and Syree Spencer (defensive back); Shaler’s Alexis Claycomb (wide receiver), Paige Querio (quarterback), Emily Thomas (wide receiver) and Zoey Cieslak (linebacker); Oakland Catholic’s Sonita Rodriguez (rusher); North Catholic’s Lizzie Fabian (wide receiver); North Allegheny’s Luciana Zagacki (wide receiver), Danika Hogan (wide receiver) and Maddie Williams (linebacker); Moon’s Lilian Barr (rusher) and Maria Cortez (linebacker); Obama Academy’s Maria Nopaltecati (rusher) and DeAnna Perez-Hall (defensive back); Kiski Area’s Gianna DeVito (wide receiver); Carrick’s Niyah Walden (wide receiver); Gateway’s Israel Brown (defensive back); Woodland Hills’ Ahmya Stubbs (defensive back); New Castle’s Ahlaina Armstrong (linebacker); and Uniontown’s Aierra Jenkins (wide receiver).

Ellis coach Chris Curd and Moon coach Jason Russell will serve as the coaches for the Steelers team.

The two-day round-robin tournament starts May 23, and the games at Mountain View Middle School are free and open to the public.

Play continues May 24, with the championship game at Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field ahead of the 69th Big 33 Football Classic.

Sunday’s games require a ticket, and a girls flag ticket also grants access to the Big 33 Football Classic.

Big 33 is widely recognized as one of the premier high school football all-star events in the nation. The game has produced numerous NFL players, including Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Tony Dorsett, Ben Roethlisberger, Damar Hamlin and Ricky Watters.

“Big 33 Weekend continues to be one of the most special traditions in high school athletics,” said Garry Cathell, executive director of the Big 33.
