Beaver County man arrested in Penn Hills with loaded gun, drugs
Authorities arrested a Beaver County man Tuesday who they said was spotted carrying illegal drugs, $7,000 in cash and a loaded gun — with one bullet waiting in the chamber — in a Penn Hills convenience store.
A detective with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office was “conducting operations” in the borough Monday with a Drug Enforcement Administration taskforce when they stopped at a GetGo location on Frankstown Road around 4 p.m., sheriff’s office spokesman Mike Manko said.
Inside, the taskforce members spotted a man — later identified as Fidell Eberhart, 34, of Aliquippa — who appeared to be carrying a gun in the front pocket of his hoodie, Manko said.
When stopped, Eberhart “attempted to evade the detectives” and “reached for the weapon in his hoodie several times” before he was taken into custody, Manko asid. The Glock pistol he was carrying had a fully loaded magazine and a round in its chamber.
Police later found Eberhart was carrying cash and 45 stamp bags of suspected narcotics, Manko said. He was charged with gun and drug possession, and resisting arrest.
Eberhart was taken Tuesday to the Allegheny County Jail and was later released after posting $5,000 bond, court records show. His attorney was not listed online.
Eberhart’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6.
Juvenile injured in hit-and-run crash in Bloomfield
A juvenile pedestrian was injured after a hit-and-run crash Tuesday in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood.
A vehicle hit the boy, who police have not named, around 11 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty and South Millvale avenues, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Eliza Durham said.
First responders took the the boy to an area hospital in stable condition for a medical evaluation, Durham said.
The driver of the white truck did not remain on scene, she said.
Police said they are reviewing camera footage from around the scene. Officers are investigating.
The incident was the second time on Tuesday alone a vehicle struck a pedestrian near a Pittsburgh hospital. Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Hospital stands on Liberty Avenue, near the South Millvale Avenue intersection.
A pedestrian sustained a minor injury around 8:30 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle near an intersection prone to accidents that runs between UPMC’s Presbyterian and Montefiore hospitals in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.
That woman, who authorities have not named, suffered a minor injury and was “conscious, alert and speaking with medics and officers” after the incident on Lothrop Street, a police spokeswoman said.
