It will be another challenge for the diamond sports with a somewhat wet forecast set for Thursday.
If Mother Nature cooperates, three Class 6A baseball series will be concluded.
Since the WPIAL increased the 6A baseball section series from two to three games in 2023, it has been tough for teams to secure a three-game sweep.
However, in this first week of section play in 6A, one team has already pulled it off and three others have a chance Thursday.
In Section 2-6A, Canon-McMillan finished off a three-game sweep of Woodland Hills, outscoring the Wolverines 36-6.
In Section 2-6A on Thursday, Westmoreland County rivals meet for a third time as Hempfield hosts Norwin.
The Knights have knocked off the Spartans in the first two games, 6-5 and 6-3.
Norwin has won four of its first five games overall. Hempfield is 2-4 and has dropped three games in a row.
In Section 1-6A, Butler will host North Hills at Pullman Park at 3:30 p.m.
The Golden Tornado rolled to victory in Game 1 of the series, 13-1, and then blanked the Indians in the second game, 4-0.
Butler has won four straight games and is 5-1 this season. North Hills is 1-6 and is on a six-game skid.
Also in Section 1, Central Catholic will bring out the brooms when it hosts reigning district champion Seneca Valley at the No Offseason facility in Russellton at 3:45 p.m.
The Vikings took the opener Monday, 7-3, then shut out the Raiders on Tuesday, 6-0.
The two victories have evened Central Catholic’s overall record at 3-3. Seneca Valley is now 4-4 with three consecutive losses.
Make-up softball
There is a key Class 5A softball game originally slated for Wednesday that has been pushed back to Thursday.
In Section 4-5A, Baldwin is home to Thomas Jefferson at 6 p.m.
The Highlanders are 3-0 in the section and 5-1 overall with five consecutive victories.
The Jaguars are also 3-0 in section play and 4-1 this season and have outscored their opponents, 37-8.
In Section 2-4A softball, West Mifflin and Elizabeth Forward have their first showdown set for next week, but for it to be a battle of unbeaten section teams, both have to take care of business Thursday.
The Titans are perfect, 4-0 in the section and 8-0 overall, as they prepare to visit Laurel Highlands. The Mustangs are 2-1 in the section and overall.
The Warriors host rival Belle Vernon. EF is 4-0 in the section and 5-1 overall while the Leopards sit at 2-2 in the section and 4-3 for the season.
