Women’s Business Network open house

The Murrysville chapter of the Women’s Business Network will host an open house from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. April 9 at Dick’s Diner, 4200 William Penn Highway, Murrysville.

The WBN is a category-exclusive organization for local businesswomen focused on networking, leadership development and community service. Current membership openings include insurance, advertising, fitness, cleaning, photography, and baking or catering.

Woman’s club scholarships

The Murrysville Woman’s Club is accepting applications for its annual nontraditional scholarship program. A minimum of three $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to women seeking to further their education.

Applicants must be Westmoreland County residents, 21 or older, and must demonstrate financial need. They must be enrolled in college or able to provide proof of enrollment.

Applications are available at Seton Hill University; Westmoreland County Community College’s Hempfield and Murrysville campuses; the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg; and at libraries in Delmont, Greensburg, Murrysville and New Kensington.

Traffic signal updated

PennDOT has modified the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 286 and Route 380 in Murrysville to better mark the way traffic is intended to move.

The signal heads have been updated to indicate that the eastbound lane where Golden Mile Highway (Route 286) becomes Route 380 is a pass-through lane with a continual green light.

Murrysville Chief Administrator Michael Nestico said the updates were a response to feedback both Murrysville and PennDOT officials received from the public.

Delmont litter pickup

The Delmont Visionary Committee will partner with Pick Up Pennsylvania to host a Delmont litter cleanup day on April 11.

Volunteers will meet at the Rose Wigfield Parklet, 27 Greensburg St., at 9 a.m.

Trash bags and gloves will be provided by PennDOT. Participants will receive a free T-shirt from Republic Services and a free lunch from the Salvation Army.

East Suburban Artists League

The featured speaker at the April 2 meeting of the East Suburban Artists League will discuss plans to revitalize the Aluminum City Arts Building in New Kensington.

Ernesto Camacho is the director and co-owner of the Manos Art Gallery in Tarentum. He will discuss a project designed to transform the Aluminum City Arts Building into a multifaceted arts center with art galleries, a historical museum, video and audio studios, classrooms and more.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Christ’s Lutheran Church, 5330 Old Logan’s Ferry Road in Murrysville.

Wind ensemble will perform at Pitt

The Franklin Regional High School Wind Ensemble will perform as part of the Spring Festival of Bands at the University of Pittsburgh.

The performance will be at 7 p.m. April 14 at Pitt’s Bellefield Hall, 316 S. Bellefield Ave. in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.

Franklin Regional will perform along with the Allegheny Brass Band and the University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band.

Delmont tax payments

Delmont residents are now able to drop off tax payments to the borough office at 77 Greensburg St. Payments can be dropped off on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a drop box outside the borough building where residents can drop off tax payments at any time.

Bingo to benefit Meals on Wheels

The Italian American Club in Export will host bingo from noon to 4 p.m. April 11 to benefit Murrysville Meals on Wheels.

The event will be held at the club, 5930 Kennedy Ave. Tickets are $30 and include lunch.

Cognitive health through nutrition discussion

The Mother of Sorrows Church “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series will feature registered dietitian Dianne Staso on April 14.

Staso will discuss the latest research about diet, brain health and foods that can enhance memory, clarity and focus.

The presentation will be at noon in the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages will be provided.

Sage’s Army to celebrate anniversary

Sage’s Army, a substance abuse prevention and recovery organization, will celebrate its 14th anniversary at 1 p.m. April 16 at its Hempfield office at 6044 Route 30.

Guest speakers will begin at 3:30 p.m.

There will be free food, music, raffle baskets and giveaways.

State police academy applications open

The Pennsylvania State Police is now accepting applications for its 2026 Law and Leadership Academy – Southwest Location. The application period runs through May 1.

The free program is designed for residents or students in Southwest Pennsylvania, ages 18 and older, who have a high school diploma or GED and are seeking a career in law enforcement. Modeled after professional police academies, the curriculum includes instruction on criminal investigations, traffic laws and police resources, alongside paramilitary training in physical fitness, swimming and marching.

The academy runs from May 11 through Aug. 5. Classes are held:

• Mondays: 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

• Saturdays: Two dates (tentative)

The program aims to foster self-discipline and teamwork while giving participants a firsthand look at the cadet experience.

The AARP Foundation has one more session for its annual tax preparation program in Murrysville.

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.

The association welcomes singles aged 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.
