Uptown road to close for PRT work
A portion of Kirkpatrick Street in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood will close for construction for about two weeks, starting Monday.
In a statement, Pittsburgh Regional Transit said bus service will not be impacted.
Kirkpatrick will close between Fifth Avenue and Beelen Street while crews work around-the-clock on the stretch as part of the University Line project, which includes bus-only lanes on Fifth and Forbes avenues and a new bike lane on Fifth Avenue.
The transit agency’s contractors will realign Kirkpatrick Street with the entrance to the Birmingham Bridge during the closure. They also will install new sidewalks, traffic signal poles and pedestrian safety signals.
The University Line project aims to strengthen connections between Downtown, Uptown and Oakland.
