For every Pittsburgh Pirates home run hit this season, Sheetz said it will donate $100 to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The announcement came Thursday — one day before the home opener at PNC Park. The initiative is called “Home Runz for Hunger,” Sheetz said.

Fans attending Friday’s game will notice a new Sheetz home run board posted in the right field foul area. It’s a counter that will show in real time throughout the season how many home runs the team has racked up.

For the food bank, each home run will equate to providing an additional 300 meals to neighbors in need, according to the announcement.

Sheetz said the new initiative with the Pirates builds on the company’s partnership with the food bank. Over the past decade, the Made-to-Share program through Sheetz has donated over 950,000 pounds of food to the food bank.
