Hundreds of kids took part in what resembled a feeding frenzy as much as an Easter egg hunt Saturday at Delmont’s Newhouse Park.
Easter-themed crafts started at 11:30 a.m. followed by a hunt at noon in the warm spring weather.
The Delmont Recreation Committee puts on the event each year, offering a free dose of fun for kids up to 10 years old.
Participants were split into three groups based on age. The oldest ones made especially quick work of their hunt, baskets flailing as they ran downhill toward a field of pastel-colored plastic eggs. Within a couple of minutes, the grass near the park’s pavilion, playground and baseball diamonds was cleared.
After the hunt, each child could pick a prize from a table topped with Hot Wheels cars, Barbie dolls and other toys donated by the Delmont Christmas Pilgrimage. A local Girl Scout troop stuffed the eggs, and the Salvation Army provided refreshments.
