Trib HSSN softball player of the week – Addyson Nigut
School – Elizabeth Forward
Class – Senior
Position – Shortstop, third base
#Earned – After losing key players to graduation and playing without injured senior Julia Resnik for the start of the season, the Elizabeth Forward softball team needed someone to step up and keep the Warriors’ machine going.
Enter senior infielder Addyson Nigut.
A starter since her freshman season, Nigut moved from third base to shortstop and has been near flawless in the move.
New defensive responsibilities have not hampered Nigut at the plate, where she has carried the load.
Junior Sophie Pasinsky is second on EF in hitting this spring, batting a hefty .478.
She trails Nigut by .200 points.
Through seven games in which the Warriors have won six of them, Nigut is batting .682 with five extra-base hits, including a home run. She has scored eight runs and leads the team with 11 RBIs.
Nigut has a .640 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of 1.045.
This past week, Elizabeth Forward won all three of its Section 2-4A games by outscoring Laurel Highlands, Uniontown and Belle Vernon, 21-0.
On Monday against the Mustangs, Nigut was 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs.
The next day hosting the Red Raiders, she was 2 for 3 with a double, home run and three runs batted in.
Nigut completed her incredible week going 2 for 4 against the Leopards with another RBI.
As a sophomore, Nigut batted .453 with a team-high two home runs and tied for the team lead in runs batted in with 21 in helping Elizabeth Forward win its second WPIAL softball championship.
In the title game win over Hampton, she was 1 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.
Her only sibling is Charlie Nigut, who enjoyed an outstanding athletic career at Elizabeth Forward and is now playing football and baseball as a freshman at Cal (Pa.).
Nigut is a straight-A student who will continue her academic and softball career at Saint Francis in Loretto, where she plans to study to be a physician’s assistant.
If she were to get an Easter basket, Nigut said she would love to see pink Starburst, Twix candy bars and Reese’s cups.
Elizabeth Forward is 5-0 in Section 2-4A, tied for first place with West Mifflin at 4-0.
The two teams collide in the first of two meetings on Monday at West Mifflin at 7 p.m. in a game you can watch through Trib HSSN.
