Malia Clemens hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the top of the seventh and winning pitcher Brianna Banner struck out 16 to lead Gateway to a 6-3 win over McKeesport in Section 2-5A softball Monday, earning its first section win since 2019.
Savannah Boden doubled twice and Ryley Beavin had two hits and two RBIs for the Gators (2-4, 1-4). Kendal Bercik homered for McKeesport (1-4, 0-4).
Allderdice 16, Bishop Canevin 15 – Lital Friedman went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Gracie Whitt tripled and drove in two runs and Madison Hultz doubled and drove in two runs to lead Allderdice (3-0) to a nonsection win. Macie McClain hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to bring Bishop Canevin (2-4) within a run, but the comeback bid ended there.
Brentwood 18, Northgate 3 – Ella Dusch went 4 for 4 with two triples and four RBIs and Emma Thompson went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI to lead Brentwood (2-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Northgate (0-2, 0-1).
Burgettstown 3, Seton LaSalle 2 – Andi Midler hit the go-ahead RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth for Burgettstown (3-3, 2-1) in a Section 3-2A win. Zoey Charlton hit a game-tying RBI groundout in top of the sixth for Seton LaSalle (3-1, 1-1). Raya Sentipal doubled and Brooklyn Robinson singled and drove in a run for the Blue Devils.
Burrell 13, Southmoreland 6 – Cayla Brothers went 2 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs, Addy Wojtczak went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and Haylee Heasley and Samantha Gregg doubled and drove in two runs apiece to lead Burrell (4-3, 2-1) to a Section 1-3A win. Zoey Murphy went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Southmoreland (1-7, 0-4).
Carmichaels 11, Beth-Center 0 – Bailey Barnyak threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 for Carmichaels (5-2, 3-0) in a Section 2-A win over Beth-Center (1-5, 0-3). Kenlee Machesky had two doubles and three RBIs, Carys McConnell doubled and drove in three runs and Ke’Lani Chun had an RBI double for the Mighty Mikes.
Elizabeth Forward 10, West Mifflin 5 – Hannah Evans, Mia Curinga and Sophie Pasinsky homered to lead Elizabeth Forward (7-1, 6-0) in a matchup of top teams in Section 2-4A. Kaleigh Tatters doubled and drove in two runs for West Mifflin (8-1, 4-1). Winning pitcher Berlyn Holibaugh struck out 15 for the Warriors.
Fox Chapel 11, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Giuliana Foley singled and homered, Bella Geller singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Ella Eisner had a double and an RBI to lead Fox Chapel (7-1) to a nonsection win. Rebecca Davis homered for Mt. Lebanon (1-6).
Hampton 16, Central Valley 2 – Teresa Fritsch had three doubles with two RBIs and Josie Fritsch had three hits and two RBIs to lead Hampton (2-2) to a Section 3-4A win over Central Valley (1-5, 1-3).
Hempfield 15, Pine-Richland 5 – Ella Berkebile had two home runs and four RBIs, Lauren Howard went 3 for 4 with two doubles, triple and three RBIs, and Abby Magill tripled and drove in two runs to lead Hempfield (6-1, 4-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Jayelyn Luft went 4 for 4, and Jocelyn Luft homered for the Spartans. Norah Cherry went 2 for 2 with a double, home run and three RBIs for Pine-Richland (2-4, 1-3).
Indiana 16, Highlands 1 – Claire Brewer went 2 for 3 with a home run, Sophia Boyer went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and Samantha Martin went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Indiana (5-2, 4-0) in a Section 1-4A win. Addy Gouza hit two singles for Highlands (0-5, 0-4).
Keystone Oaks 23, East Allegheny 1 – Eveline Kyper had two doubles and four RBIs, Kailyn Brannon singled, doubled and drove in four runs and Nina Buckley hit two doubles and drove in two runs to lead Keystone Oaks (5-2, 2-1) to a Section 3-3A win. Ameria Simmons doubled and drove in a run for East Allegheny (1-3, 0-2).
Ligonier Valley 7, Jeannette 5 – Bella Dolton doubled and drove in two runs, Marlee Miller had a double and an RBI and Kenzlee Machak also knocked in two runs to lead Ligonier Valley (3-3) to a nonsection win. Abigail Shaw singled and doubled and Grace Steing drove in two runs for Jeannette (4-1).
Mohawk 4, Avonworth 2 – Lydia Cole went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and three RBIs and Abby Donofrio doubled and drove in a run to lead Mohawk (5-1, 3-0) to a Section 2-3A win. Anna Fowler doubled and drove in a run and Alexandra Savatt singled and drove in a run for Avonworth (3-4, 1-1).
North Hills 30, Penn Hills 0 – Lily Adamski went 5 for 5 with a double and four RBIs, Emma Sutton went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Casey Devlin drove in three runs for North Hills (2-4, 2-3) in a Section 1-5A win. Addison Helsel hit a double for Penn Hills (0-6, 0-5). Winning pitcher Abigail Sutton allowed two hits in three innings and struck out eight for North Hills.
Penn-Trafford 9, Franklin Regional 0 – Allyson Paulone threw a complete game one-hitter and struck out seven for Penn-Trafford (6-2, 4-1) in a Section 2-5A win. Grace Stark singled for Franklin Regional (1-8, 1-3). Julia Salvador drove in three runs and Torrie DeStefano went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs for the Warriors.
Plum 11, New Castle 10 – In the bottom of the seventh, Aubrey Maxwell hit the game-tying sacrifice fly and Jaiden Gentile delivered the walk-off RBI single to lead Plum (5-2, 3-2) to a Section 1-5A win. Sydney Pici went 3 for 4 with a home run, Liana Yusko singled and homered and Lily Deluca had two doubles and two RBIs for the Mustangs. Mikayla Young went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs, Angie Gallo and Aliyah Stalczynski also homered and Mikayla DiGennaro hit three doubles for New Castle (6-3, 3-3).
Serra Catholic 15, Geibel Catholic 0 – Kelly Morrissey went 2 for 2 with a double, home run and three RBIs and Alonna Morton went 2 for 2 with three RBIs to lead Serra Catholic (2-4) to a nonsection win. Janiah Darnell singled for Geibel Catholic (0-2). Winning pitcher Giana Foster struck out seven and allowed one hit in three innings for the Eagles.
Shaler 15, Mars 0 – Addy Aleski went 3 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs, Alyssa Schaffold homered and drove in three runs and Olivia Gieraltowski tripled and drove in a run to lead Shaler (8-1, 6-0) past Mars (1-5, 1-4) in a Section 1-5A win. Winning pitcher Taylor London threw a three-inning two-hitter and struck out four for the Titans.
South Allegheny 13, Apollo-Ridge 7 – Jordyn Stetor went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and RBI and Ava Brown went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead South Allegheny (2-3, 1-0) to a Section 2-2A win. Mikaila Ditty went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Apollo-Ridge (2-3, 1-1).
South Fayette 10, Upper St. Clair 8 – Evie Vuono went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Brenna Dunn went 3 for 4 with an RBI for South Fayette (3-5, 2-2) in a Section 3-5A win. Caroline Barnard went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Upper St. Clair (2-5, 0-3).
Union 9, Sewickley Academy 1 – Irelyn Fisher went 3 for 4 with a triple, home run and three RBIs, Olivia Williams homered and drove in two runs and Maggie Joseph hit two doubles to lead Union (4-1, 3-0) to a Section 1-A win. Gabby Edmunds singled and drove in a run for Sewickley Academy (1-1, 1-1). Winning pitcher Jorynne Shannon struck out 13 and allowed three hits in seven innings for the Scotties.
Uniontown 7, Laurel Highlands 1 – Alivia Noah went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Juliet White and Katie White had a double and RBI apiece to lead Uniontown (4-2, 2-2) to a Section 2-4A win. Payton Senge went 2 for 3 with a home run for Laurel Highlands (2-2, 2-2).
Waynesburg 6, Frazier 5 – Ellie Makel hit a two-run walk-off RBI single in the eighth for Waynesburg (5-2, 2-1) in a Section 4-2A win. Grace Polkabla went 2 for 3 for with a double and an RBI for Frazier (3-5, 1-3). Winning pitcher Gina Tedrow struck out 15 in eight innings for the Raiders.
West Allegheny 10, Chartiers Valley 4 – Madison Maritz went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs and Irena Santoro had two doubles and two RBIs to lead West Allegheny (4-0, 2-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Ava Dunlap and Lily Duffill doubled and drove in a run apiece for Chartiers Valley (1-4, 1-3).

Brentwood 14, Carrick 3 – TJ Winkowski doubled and drove in two runs, Blaize Dias had two hits and three RBIs and Michael O’Leary also knocked in two runs to help Brentwood (1-2) to a nonsection win. Jaiden Gill homered for Carrick (1-2).
Cameron 13 (WV) 13, West Greene 6 – Winning pitcher Landen Francis homered to lead Cameron to a nonsection win. Dylan Hughes and Jackson Grimes each doubled and drove in a run for West Greene (0-6).

Mars 57, Seneca Valley 51 (2OT) – Ava Pulliam threw eight touchdown passes, five to Miley Gratton, to lead Mars to a double overtime win in Section 1. Mia Gratton, Mackenzie Powell and Arianna Rhedrick also caught TD passes and Arianna Rhedrick returned an interception for a score for the Fightin’ Planets.
North Catholic 14, New Castle 0 – Gabby Valentine threw touchdown passes to Ava Vangura and Mia Banaszak and Sarah Shay intercepted two passes to lead North Catholic (5-1) to Section 1 victory.
Boys lacrosse
Plum 16, Gateway 4 – James Beall scored five goals, Matthew Amen netted four, and Scott Pushic and Jack Majcher each added a pair of goals for the Mustangs (5-3) in a nonsection victory. Vinny Barclay, Zach Bonicky and Tyler Brenner also scored for Plum. Colby Burch and Ziggy Maag split time in goal during the win.
Girls lacrosse
Freeport 15, Winchester Thurston 6 – Macey Edwards had seven goals and an assist to lead Freeport to a nonsection win. Sophia Glass had three goals and three assists, Jocelyn Johns added a pair of goals and Scarlett Sather, Alyssa Lovgren and Kadence Kronen also scored for the Yellowjackets.
Mars 16, Shady Side Academy 2 – Katie Blake scored six goals, Hailey Long added four and Anna McGrath and Lucy Balazs had two apiece to lead Mars to a nonsection win. Lola Seideneck and Jenna Smith also scored and Julia Lego made six saves for the Fightin’ Planets.
