Pitt will have one additional roster spot to fill after the spring basketball transfer portal season opened Tuesday.
Omari Witherspoon, a former four-star recruit who played his true freshman campaign at Pitt last season, plans to enter the portal, a source confirmed to TribLive.
Witherspoon joins Roman Siulepa, Brandin Cummings, Papa Amadou Kante and Kieran Mullen as players from the 2025-26 Panthers planning to transfer.
A 6-foot-5 guard from Bowie, Md., Witherspoon turned into a regular member of Pitt’s starting lineup, averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds over 33 games played (25 starts).
Witherspoon shot 38% from the floor in his first collegiate campaign and ranked fifth on the team in shots attempted (242).
The transfer portal remains open through April 21.
Given the roster defections which continue to mount, Pitt is shaping up to have a considerably different team in 2026-27, with Jeff Capel having been retained as coach for at least another season after coming off a 13-20 (5-13 ACC) campaign.
The next two weeks will also be an opportunity for Jay Kuntz, hired in May 2025 as the program’s first general manager, to find recruits in the transfer portal.
As of Tuesday, Pitt is down to two scholarship players from last season who saw game action — guards Nojus Indrusaitis and Macari Moore — who remain with the program.
