There are key series in each section in Class 5A baseball that are set to either begin or conclude Wednesday.

In Section 1-5A, Plum entered the week as the only unbeaten team, one game ahead of four teams, including a pair of 3-1 schools in Franklin Regional and Penn-Trafford.

Plum visits Penn-Trafford at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Mustangs are 2-0 in the section and 7-0 on the season. The Warriors have won three of their four section games and six of their eight games overall.

Their game Tuesday at Plum was postponed and will be played Thursday.

In Section 2-5A, South Fayette is home to Bethel Park at 4 p.m.

Both the Lions and Black Hawks entered their showdown series with 3-1 section records.

BP scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally and defeat SF on Tuesday, 4-1.

South Fayette is now 6-3 this season and Bethel Park has improved to 7-1 overall.

Everybody is looking up at Pine-Richland in Section 3-5A, so two teams hot on its heels wrap up their series when New Castle travels to Fox Chapel.

The Red Hurricanes are 1-1 in section play and 5-1 for the season. The Foxes are looking to hang near the top as they sit at 2-2 in section play and 3-4 for the season.

The teams will play again Thursday at New Castle after their game Tuesday was postponed.
