Pittsburgh’s fickle weather is striking again as temperatures are expected to swing from freezing to warm on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Moon said morning temperatures will dip below freezing — 27 degrees in Allegheny County and 23 degrees in Westmoreland County — before a warmer pattern settles in for the rest of the week.

“We have a nice day in store with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, light winds and mostly sunny skies,” the weather service posted on social media.

The warmup comes after a freeze warning was issued for parts of the Pittsburgh area where the growing season is active. The warning began at 11 p.m. Tuesday and is set to end at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A social post Tuesday evening from the NWS said, “There is high confidence in below-freezing temperatures tonight, which could damage sensitive outdoor vegetation.”

Thursday will be mostly sunny, and Friday will be partly sunny with a chance of afternoon showers. Both days are expected to have highs in the lower 70s.

Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of morning showers before turning sunny in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 60s.

Warmer weather is expected to continue into next week.

Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s.

A National Weather Service meteorologist was not immediately available for comment Wednesday morning.
