Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Stuart Skinner appears likely to rejoin his team for Thursday’s road contest against the New Jersey Devils after being scratched for a contest due to a facial injury.
During a practice session in Cranberry on Wednesday, Skinner worked out with teammates in a full capacity with few apparent limitations.
In fact, Skinner and rookie goaltender Arturs Silovs participated in the bulk of the practice session while prospect Sergei Murashov, recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Tuesday, was relegated to working out on an auxiliary rink with an assistant coach.
Following practice, coach Dan Muse indicated all three goaltenders are scheduled to travel to Newark, N.J. for Thursday’s contest but stopped short of declaring if Skinner would be part of the lineup.
Skinner was struck by a puck near his left eye during a 9-4 home win against the Florida Panthers. Dressing as the backup for that contest, Skinner was injured while sitting on the bench when a puck left the ice.
After his eye swelled up overnight and impaired his vision, he was scratched for a 5-2 home win against the Panthers on Sunday, a contest he was initially scheduled to start.
In 47 games this season, Skinner has a 22-16-9 record, a 2.91 goals-against average, an .888 save percentage and two shutouts.
