Open house at historic cabin

The Murrysville Historical Preservation Society will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. April 19 at the Hoey-Staymates cabin and barn, 4515 Round Top Road, Murrysville.

In addition to tales of local pioneers, the barn will house a diorama of Murrysville’s town square in the 1920s, the Haymaker gas well model, a doctor’s buggy and chuck wagon, and a collection of historical items from local farms. Archaeology presentation

The Murrysville branch of the American Association of University Women will welcome Carnegie Museum of Natural History Archaeology Collection Manager Amy Covell-Murthy as the guest speaker for its April 9 meeting.

The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road.

Covell-Murthy will share examples and protocols for repatriating artifacts, and discuss how this process has changed over the past 30 years since the introduction of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1991, along with new regulations introduced in 2025.

Electric car show planned

The Three Rivers Electric Vehicle Association is hosting its annual Drive Electric Earth Month car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18 in Murrysville.

The group is made up of electric vehicle owners, educators, hobbyists and enthusiasts. This year, they will celebrate the life of former club president Jonathan Belak, who died in December.

Bigfoot program

The Delmont Public Library will host paranormal investigator Stan Gordon at 1 p.m. April 18.

Gordon will present a program on investigations into Bigfoot, as well as an update on the Kecksburg UFO. Gordon will explore witness accounts, recurring patterns and puzzling details. Register at DelmontLibrary.org or by calling 724-468-5329.

Bushy Run Battlefield in Penn Township will host its annual Market Days on April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, Aug. 22 and Sept. 26.

Delmont litter pickup

The Delmont Visionary Committee will partner with Pick Up Pennsylvania to host a Delmont litter cleanup day April 11.

Volunteers will meet at the Rose Wigfield Parklet, 27 Greensburg St., at 9 a.m. Trash bags and gloves will be provided by PennDOT. Participants will receive a free T-shirt from Republic Services and a free lunch from the Salvation Army. Volunteers are asked to RSVP by emailing delmontvisionarycommittee@gmail.com.

Bingo for Meals on Wheels

The Italian American Club in Export will host bingo from noon to 4 p.m. April 11 to benefit Murrysville Meals on Wheels.

Cognitive health discussion

The Mother of Sorrows Church “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series will feature registered dietitian Dianne Staso on April 14.

Staso will discuss the latest research about diet, brain health and foods that can enhance memory, clarity and focus. The presentation will be at noon in the church’s social hall, 4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and a friend. Beverages will be provided.

Sage’s Army anniversary

Sage’s Army, a substance abuse prevention and recovery organization, will celebrate its 14th anniversary at 1 p.m. April 16 at its Hempfield office, 6044 Route 30.

Woman’s club scholarships

The Murrysville Woman’s Club is accepting applications for its annual nontraditional scholarship program. A minimum of three $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to women seeking to further their education.

Applicants must be Westmoreland County residents, 21 or older, and must demonstrate financial need. They must be enrolled in college or able to provide proof of enrollment.

Applications are available at Seton Hill University; Westmoreland County Community College’s Hempfield and Murrysville campuses; the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg; and at libraries in Delmont, Greensburg, Murrysville and New Kensington.

Wind ensemble at Pitt

The Franklin Regional High School Wind Ensemble will perform as part of the Spring Festival of Bands at the University of Pittsburgh.

The performance will be at 7 p.m. April 14 at Pitt’s Bellefield Hall, 316 S. Bellefield Ave. in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.

Franklin Regional will perform along with the Allegheny Brass Band and the University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band.

Delmont tax payments

Delmont residents are now able to drop off tax payments to the borough office at 77 Greensburg St. Payments can be dropped off on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a drop box outside the borough building where residents can drop off tax payments at any time.

State police academy

The Pennsylvania State Police is now accepting applications for its 2026 Law and Leadership Academy – Southwest Location. The application period runs through May 1.

The free program is designed for residents or students in Southwest Pennsylvania, ages 18 and older, who have a high school diploma or GED and are seeking a career in law enforcement. Modeled after professional police academies, the curriculum includes instruction on criminal investigations, traffic laws and police resources, alongside paramilitary training in physical fitness, swimming and marching.

The academy runs from May 11 through Aug. 5. Classes are held:

• Mondays: 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

• Saturdays: Two dates (tentative)

The program aims to foster self-discipline and teamwork while giving participants a firsthand look at the cadet experience.
