The Save America Act is designed to protect and insure election integrity by requiring photo ID in order to vote in all U.S. elections. Twenty-one states already require photo ID, and another 12 require some other form of personal ID to vote. Over 170 out of 196 representative democracies around the world require voter ID to vote. Many countries require biological ID in addition to photo ID to vote, even for absentee ballots. America is woefully behind the rest of the world in protecting the integrity of our elections.
Surveys show the Save America Act is favored by 85% of Republicans and independents, and 71% of Democrats also support it. But only one Democratic Congressperson out of 214 voted in favor of this bill in Congress on Feb. 11. This shows me the Democratic leadership is out of touch with its constituency and is obviously controlled by its far left wing, which is the same group of radical, anti-American socialists who are fighting against enforcing our immigration laws.
The bill is now in the Senate, where the Dems are filibustering against it. I believe this bill is important enough that the majority Republicans should get rid of the antiquated filibuster rule if necessary and force a vote. The filibuster is nothing but another way to allow politicians to avoid their responsibilities.
Dump the filibuster, pass the SAVE America Act. Protecting the integrity of our elections is basic to maintaining our democracy.
