Bell Avenue, a well traveled road in West Leechburg, will be going through a bit of a makeover later this month.

According to a letter sent to residents who live on the street and posted to the borough’s Facebook page, crews will begin excavating sections of the road between South Avenue and West Leechburg Hill Road on April 20 to prepare for future paving.

“This process will involve repairing soft spots in the road and strengthening the underlying base to ensure that the new pavement is more durable and longer-lasting,” the letter said.

In the post’s comments, the borough said the goal is to pave the entire section between South and West Leechburg Hill in the future.

However, with oil prices rising, and oil being a key component of asphalt, borough leaders are “nervous” about what bids will look like when it comes time to pave.

Throughout the work, “no parking” signs will be posted in active work sites along the street.

“Every effort will be made to keep the roadway passable and accessible to residents throughout the project,” the letter said.

During daytime work hours, temporary detours and road restrictions can be expected. According to the borough, the work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions and coordination with other projects.

The work is expected to continue through May.
