The WPIAL announced the format for the inaugural girls flag football playoffs and championships.

The top four teams from each of the four sections will qualify for the district postseason tournament.

On Tuesday, May 5, there will be three playoff matches in each sectional.

First-round game No. 1 will be played at 5 p.m., the second first-round game will be set to start at 6:30 p.m., and then the two winners meet at 8 p.m. in a WPIAL quarterfinal.

The sites for the four sectionals are:

• Section 1 at North Allegheny

• Section 2 at Mt. Lebanon

• Section 3 at Gateway

• Section 4 at Montour

The four sectional winners advance to the WPIAL semifinals, which will be followed by the inaugural championship game.

The semifinals and finals will take place at Upper St. Clair on Thursday, May 7.

The first semifinal will begin at 5 p.m., and the second semi is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.

The two winners meet in the WPIAL championship game at 8 p.m.

The current section leaders are:

Section 1 – North Catholic 4-0, North Allegheny 3-0, Shaler 2-0

Section 2 – Mt. Lebanon 5-0, Upper St. Clair 4-0

Section 3 – Plum 5-0, McKeesport 3-0

Section 4 – Seton LaSalle 6-0
