Teagan Schippert hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to give Shenango the lead for good in a 6-5 victory over Neshannock in Section 1-2A softball Thursday.
Shenango snapped Neshannock’s WPIAL-record 57-game winning streak. The last time the Lancers lost a game was in the 2023 PIAA semifinals to Everett, and their last section loss was in 2021 to Shenango.
Emma Herb went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Addison Downing tripled and drove in a run for the Wildcats (9-1, 5-1). Gianna Paglia doubled and knocked in a run for the Lancers (5-1, 4-1).
Avonworth 13, Quaker Valley 0 – Ali Linhart tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 as Avonworth (5-4, 3-1) defeated Quaker Valley (0-3, 0-2) in Section 2-3A. Anna Fowler went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Alexandra Eberhardt smacked a solo home run, Gaby Interthal doubled and drove in three and Alexandra Savatt tripled and plated two runs for the Antelope.
Baldwin 10, Trinity 5 – Camryn Temme went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Mackenzie Bowen drove in two and Jordan Gerendash doubled and knocked in a run as Baldwin (8-1, 6-0) doubled up Trinity (9-2, 4-2) in Section 4-5. Nina Christy homered and brought home three runs for the Hillers.
Belle Vernon 11, West Mifflin 2 – Bella Williams went 2 for 5 with four RBIs, Kaylee Sypolt clubbed two doubles and drove in three and Brooke Hugland went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs as Belle Vernon (5-5, 3-4) cruised to a Section 2-4A win. Mia Bey doubled in a run for West Mifflin (8-2, 4-2).
Bentworth 17, California 1 – Sydney Gonglik went 3 for 3 with five RBIs, Nora Lindley doubled and drove in four runs and Zoie McDonald collected two hits and three RBIs as Bentworth (8-0, 3-0) cruised to a Section 4-2A win over California (0-8, 0-5).
Burgettstown 5, OLSH 0 – Evelyn Lehman threw a complete game one-hitter, allowed no runs and struck out nine while Brooklyn Robinson doubled and drove in two as Burgettstown (5-3, 4-1) blanked OLSH (3-3, 2-2) in Section 3-2A. Neveah Morin had the lone hit for the Chargers.
Chartiers-Houston 16, Carlynton 0 – Jordyn Hollenbach doubled and drove in three runs, winning pitcher Seanna Riggle struck out six and went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI to pace Chartiers-Houston (10-0 4-0) in a Section 3-2A win. Danica DeCecco and Sarah Loney each had a hit for Carlynton (2-5, 0-4). Kiera Drilak doubled and plated two runs and Taryne Drilak went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Buccaneers.
Jeannette 9, Leechburg 1 – Grace Stein gave up one run on one hit and struck out 20 to lead Jeannette (6-1, 4-0) to a Section 3-A win over Leechburg (0-5, 0-3). Raylin Gallik doubled twice and drove in three runs, Dalyhna Howard doubled and brought in two while Stein and Abigail Shaw each plated a run for the Jayhawks. Emilee Kostyak had the only hit for the Blue Devils.
Laurel 10, Riverside 0 – Riley Balcolm gave up two hits and struck out seven in four shutout innings while Hailey Fell went 3 for 3 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs as Laurel (4-1, 4-1) thumped Riverside (1-2, 1-2) in Section 1-2A. Alexis Bair brought home two runs for the Spartans. Jocilene Cummings doubled for the Panthers.
North Allegheny 12, Pine-Richland 8 – Erin Fadgen doubled and drove in four runs while Zoe Rychel and Leah Carlson each knocked in two to power North Allegheny (2-5, 2-4) to a Section 1-6A win. Abbey Laurent went 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs and Sydney Bezila doubled and drove in three for Pine-Richland (2-5, 1-5).
North Catholic 10, Western Beaver 0 – Clare Kotwica yielded two hits and fanned 15 in six shutout innings, Lauren Golebiewski went 2 for 3 with a home run and an RBI and Dakota Hicks drove in three as North Catholic (4-1, 3-0) defeated Western Beaver (3-3, 1-2) in Section 3-4A. Bella Colatriano and Elizabeth Squicquiero each had a hit for the Golden Beavers.
Penn-Trafford 9, Norwin 7 – Torrie DeStefano doubled and drove in three runs, Gabi Rubbe doubled and plated a run and winning pitcher Aria Smith went 3 for 4 to lead Penn-Trafford (8-2) to a nonsection win. Makenna Black doubled twice and drove in a run, Diem Wardzinski tripled and brought in a run and Madelyn Kugler doubled and had an RBI for Norwin (4-3).
Seneca Valley 7, Canon-McMillan 3 – Abby Kalkowski struck out nine in a complete game while Hannah Hornick smashed a solo home run to lead Seneca Valley (7-1, 5-1) to a Section 1-6A win. Riley Geyer and Paige Volz each drove in a run for the Raiders. Sophie Carl homered and plated two runs for Canon-McMillan (5-2, 4-2).
Sewickley Academy 16, Rochester 1; Sewickley Academy 16, Rochester 0 – In Game 1 of a doubleheader, Cherish Wilson went 3 for 4 with a triple, two doubles and five RBIs, Keira Church doubled and plated two runs and Sanaa Grant doubled and drove in a run as Sewickley Academy trounced Rochester in Section 1-A. Ava Wilson singled and brought home a run for the Rams.
In Game 2, Charlotte Andrews struck out 12 in a four-inning no-hitter while Gabby Edmunds tripled, doubled and had five RBIs as Sewickley (4-1, 4-1) beat Rochester (0-6, 0-4). Keira Church doubled and knocked in three runs and Sanaa Grant doubled and plated two for the Panthers.
Thomas Jefferson 10, Albert Gallatin 0 – Adalina Bracco went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Jemma Danko doubled and knocked in a run to lead Thomas Jefferson (7-2, 6-1) to a Section 4-5A shutout win. Jenna Meyers had a hit for Albert Gallatin (0-8, 0-7). Madden Stanek and Zoie DeCostro each doubled for the Jaguars.
Union 5, South Side 2 – Korynne Shannon gave up two runs on two hits and struck out 14 while going 3 for 4 at the plate with two solo home runs to power Union (5-1, 4-0) past South Side (4-5, 3-2) in Section 1-A. Irelyn Fisher also hit a solo home run for the Scotties. Ariel Poelcher homered and drove in two for the Rams.
Upper St. Clair 10, Chartiers Valley 9 – Winning pitcher Brooklyn Kemp slapped the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to lift Upper St. Clair (3-5, 1-3) past Chartiers Valley (1-6, 1-5) in Section 3-5A. Nora Stutzman tripled and knocked in three runs for the Panthers. Lily Duffill doubled and eclipsed 100 career hits and Ava Dunlap went 2 for 5 with two RBIs for the Colts.
Washington 5, Waynesburg 4 – Kali Hagan clubbed a solo home run, Sophie McCort doubled and brought home a run while Chessa Henderson picked up the win as Washington (6-1, 3-0) edged out Waynesburg (5-4, 2-2) in Section 4-2A. Devin Moore plated three runs and Ellie Makel went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
West Greene 15, Mapletown 0 – Winning pitcher Caitlin Whyte doubled and drove in five, Elaina Beazell went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, and Kendra Tharp tripled and brought home a run as West Greene (6-3, 3-1) shut out Mapletown (1-5, 0-4) in Section 2-A.

Butler 5, North Allegheny 3 – Kyle Casteel struck out 11 in 6⅓ innings and Trent Best brought home two runs as Butler (7-2, 4-1) beat North Allegheny (3-4, 0-2) in Section 1-6A. Mason Dratfinsky doubled and knocked in a run for the Tigers.
Canon-McMillan 4, Norwin 1 – MJ Maruschak struck out 14 in a complete game while Brayden Radue went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Canon-McMillan (10-0, 5-0) to a Section 2-6A win. Caden Sivrich fanned 10 while Zane Markovitz drove in the only run for Norwin (5-3, 3-2).
Charleroi 6, McGuffey 4 – Tristyn Woods knocked in three runs, Lazer Glasser tripled and winning pitcher Brock Henderson slapped a double as Charleroi (3-3, 3-3) beat McGuffey (2-7, 1-3) in Section 4-3A. Wyatt Hildreth doubled and drove in two runs and Noah Seibert doubled and plated a run for the Highlanders.
Chartiers-Houston 11, Bentworth 9 – Josh Hawkins doubled twice and brought in four runs and Parker Riggle went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI as Chartiers-Houston (5-4, 4-2) weathered a late Bentworth (2-5, 1-5) rally for a Section 1-2A win. Jude Laskey knocked in two runs for the Bearcats.
Franklin Regional 9, Connellsville 8 – Luke Williams roped an RBI triple with two outs in the seventh to tie the game and Miles Tomley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth as Franklin Regional (10-2) walked off against Connellsville (2-7) in nonsection play. Williams also had two doubles while Tim Pirone homered and drove in three runs and Anthony Mitchell plated a pair for the Panthers. Noah Zawislan went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Falcons.
Indiana 10, Derry 3 – Sullivan Vanhoose doubled and drove in three runs, Ethan Shank went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and Brady Oakes got the win as Indiana (6-0, 4-0) defeated Derry (4-5, 1-3) in Section 3-4A. Anthony Sacco went 2 for 2 with a double for the Trojans.
Kiski School 3, Obama Academy 2 – Tyler Faust doubled and drove in a run while Tyler Hahn gave up two runs on four hits and struck out five for the win as Kiski School defeated Obama Academy (3-1) in nonsection play. Luke Ehman plated two runs for the Eagles. Cy Zufall fanned four in two innings to pick up a save for the Cougars.
Knoch 10, Highlands 0 – Hunter Lang gave up one hit and struck out nine in five shutout innings while Kyle Morgan, Carter Beres and Kaden Dreher each drove in two runs to lead Knoch (9-1, 4-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Troy Bielak had the only hit for Highlands (0-9, 0-4).
Latrobe 10, Penn Hills 2 – Joey Crimboli doubled and drove in two runs while Mason Hrubes and Grady Ruffner each plated a run as Latrobe (9-1, 5-1) defeated Penn Hills (0-7, 0-6) in Section 1-5A. Darrin Ehman went 3 for 4 for the Penn Hills.
Mars 11, Beaver 1 – Colin Yurisinec doubled and plated two runs, Grady Speigle went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and Zack Hugus picked up a win as Mars (3-6) defeated Beaver (6-4) in nonsection play.
Mohawk 9, Riverside 8 – Tim Edwards worked a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh as Mohawk (5-1, 2-1) walked off against Riverside (3-5, 2-2) in Section 1-3A. Kam O’Lare and Chase Weisz each drove in two runs for the Warriors. Jackson Barber and Logan Young each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Panthers.
Montour 16, Gateway 3 – Michael Ivanoff went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Zander Stern went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Tyler Puffer plated two runs to power Montour (6-2, 4-0) to a Section 4-5A victory. Ryan Deselich doubled and drove in a run for Gateway (4-5, 2-2). Dalton Young picked up a win for the Spartans.
Neshannock 16, Freedom 2 – Ryan Cameron went 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs while Antonio Quahliero and Joey DiMuccio each doubled and knocked in a run as Neshannock (7-1, 3-1) beat Freedom (4-4, 4-2) in Section 2-2A. Garrett Drutarosky brought home two runs for the Bulldogs.
New Castle 7, Fox Chapel 6 – Parker Bailey drove in the game-winning run on a single in the top of the eighth to lift New Castle (6-2, 2-2) past Fox Chapel (4-5, 3-3) Section 3-5A. Alex Rodgers collected two hits and two RBIs and Carlo DeSalvo got the win for the Hurricanes. Nick Seifried drove in two runs while Blake Krushinski, Jaxson Lapiana and Tyler Golembiewski each knocked in a run for the Foxes.
Penn-Trafford 4, Plum 1 – Austin Kovarik went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs while Tanner DeStefano and Bryce Ruby each knocked in a run as Penn-Trafford (7-3, 4-2) bested Plum (8-1, 3-1) in Section 1-5A. Enzo Mele and Ryan Lafferty each doubled for the Mustangs.
Quaker Valley 17, Beaver Falls 3 – Holden Kirkham went 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, Tristen Bemis plated three runs and winning pitcher Todd Kagle went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBIs as Quaker Valley (3-3, 2-1) belted Beaver Falls (2-2, 1-2) in Section 1-3A. Jackson Quinn went 2 for 3 for the Tigers.
Shenango 15, Northgate 0 – Dom Dando gave up one hit and struck out eight in three shutout innings while Jakob Kamerer tripled and knocked in four runs, AJ Ferilla went 2 for 2 with an RBI and Jack Kielar and Lucas Bowen each plated a run as Shenango (8-1, 4-0) blanked Northgate (2-4, 2-4) in Section 2-2A. Nick Rawlings had the only hit for the Flames.
South Side 16, Springdale 1 – Cole McCoy went 3 for 3 with five RBIs, Jake Ziegler tripled, doubled and drove in two runs and Ian Dilts went 3 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBIs as South Side (5-2, 3-1) beat Springdale (1-6, 0-5) in Section 3-2A. Joey Loebig plated the lone run for the Dynamo. Ryan Shaw picked up a win for the Rams.
Turkeyfoot Valley 5, Mapletown 4 – Corban Stimmel singled and scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh as Turkeyfoot Valley walked off Mapletown (0-8) in nonsection play. Cameryn Shaffer and Kaleb Evosevich each went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Maples. Lee Bowers struck out nine for Turkeyfoot.
Union 19, Rochester 1 – Winning pitcher Cole Harper and Geno Biondi each doubled and drove in three runs and Chris Staph, Fred Settle and Dom Cucitrone plated two runs apiece as Union (2-7, 2-2) rolled Rochester (2-5, 2-3) in Section 2-A. Andrew Miller doubled in the lone run for the Rams.
Upper St. Clair 11, Trinity 1 – Evan Smirniw drove in three runs, Nico D’Orazio doubled and knocked in two and Noach Baird went 2 for 2 with an RBI as Upper St. Clair (4-3, 2-2) beat Trinity (3-7, 2-4) in Section 2-5A. Owen Samogala doubled for the Hillers. Grayson Valancius fanned five in five innings for the Panthers.
Washington 8, Waynesburg 4 – Caleb Patton went 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Joseph Wilson doubled and drove in three and William Callan tripled and plated a pair of runs as Washington (6-4, 3-3) doubled up Waynesburg (2-7, 2-2) in Section 4-3A. CJ Corwin went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Grant Pack went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Raiders.
Woodland Hills 22, Perry Traditional Academy 0 – Winning pitcher Quinton Davis gave up one hit and struck out seven in a three-inning shutout while also going 2 for 2 at the plate with a triple and six RBIs to power Woodland Hills (4-3) to a nonsection win. Anthony Barron homered and drove in five while Brayden Lindsey and Marcello Fagnelli each plated two runs for the Wolverines. Isaac Long had the only hit for Perry (0-3).

Plum 12, Avonworth 1 – James Beall scored three goals and Matthew Amen, Jack Majcher and Scott Pushic each scored twice to lead Plum (6-4) to a nonsection win. Tyler Brenner, Shane Jenkins and Vinny Barclay also scored for the Mustangs.
Girls lacrosse
Freeport 17, Ambridge 1 – Macey Edwards scored two goals, including the 100th of her career, to lead Freeport to a Section 2-2A win. Sophia Glass scored four goals, Jocelyn Johns had three goals and two assists, Natalia Urik also scored three goals and Kyleigh Rogers had two goals and two assists for the Yellowjackets.
Oakland Catholic 21, Yough 3 – Maggie Friday and Tilly Conner each scored four goals and Sasha Wozetek made her 250th career save to lead Oakland Catholic to a Section 1-2A win. Josie Donahue and Maddy Connolly each scored their first goal of the season for the Eagles.
Quaker Valley 18, North Catholic 6 – Kate Miller had six goals and two assists and Alexa Westwood and Lucy Roig each added three goals and two assists to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 2-2A win. Anna Campbell and Tess Krotine each had two goals and Grace Keisel and Mia Floro also scored for the Quakers.
Trinity 8, Seton LaSalle 6 – Myah Agmon had four goals, Georgia Poach added two and Cecelia Bristor and Taylor Phillips also scored to lead Trinity to a Section 1-2A win.
Flag football
North Catholic 34, Deer Lakes 6 – Lizzie Fabian scored a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown and on an interception return to lead North Catholic to a Section 1 win. Gabby Valentine threw three touchdown passes to Ava Vangura, Sarah Shay and Fabian.
Penn Hills 48, Greensburg Salem 0 – Saniya Horsley made nine catches for 83 yards and a touchdown and Trinity Fielder and Jordin Stubbs each threw TD passes to lead Penn Hills to a Section 3 win. Aniyah Hickman, Juli Robinson and Madison Meek scored rushing touchdowns and Zakeira Montini made a 17-yard TD catch in the win. Zakeira Montini intercepted two passes, running one back for a score.
Plum 49, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Kaiden Young threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns, Tamia West had 130 yards and three scores and Isla Filo finished with 120 yards and two TDs to lead Plum (7-0) to a Section 3 win.
Boys volleyball
Penn-Trafford 3, Latrobe 0 – Ethan McDonald had 15 kills, Owen Hodge had nine kills and six blocks and Billy Spena had 40 assists and five aces as Penn-Trafford won 25-16, 25-14, and 25-18 in straight sets to beat Latrobe.
