St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church

The Rev. Laura Di Panfilo has been called to be the full-time priest-in-charge at St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church in Franklin Park. She has been associate rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mt. Lebanon, for nearly seven years.

She will begin at St. Brendan’s on June 1 and celebrate her first Sunday services there on June 14.

Originally from Massachusetts, Rev. Di Panfilo is a graduate of Emory University. She also holds a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts in Ministry from General Theological Seminary in New York. Prior to her time in Pittsburgh, she served as a hospital chaplain at a trauma center in Trenton, N.J.

Her husband is the Rev. Dr. Luke Zerra, who serves at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brentwood. The couple has two young daughters.

Rev. Di Panfilo will follow the Rev. Canon Nancy Suellau, who has served St. Brendan’s as interim priest-in-charge since last May and the Rev. Robin Jarrell, who retired in April 2025.

St. Brendan’s is an open, welcoming and active church that holds in-person worship with Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays, and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Sunday School for children of kindergarten age and up and nursery coverage for infants and toddlers is offered at the Sunday 10 o’clock service, which is livestreamed on YouTube.

The church holds a monthly Children’s Service, inviting young members to take part by reading and serving during the liturgy. The next Children’s Service will take place at 10 a.m. April 26.

The Youth Group meets on the third Sunday of every month after the 10 a.m. service. Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend.

St. Brendan’s will hold an outdoor parish cleanup on April 18, 8 a.m. to noon, weather permitting. Volunteers should bring rakes, shovels and work gloves.

Parishioners are collecting orange, apple and cranberry juice; cereal; and unflavored oatmeal for the North Hills Food Bank. Donations may be left in the church lobby.

The Book Club will meet April 13 at 1 p.m. to discuss “What I Ate in One Year” by Stanley Tucci, a memoir on food, life and family.

Sticks & Strings, the church group that likes to knit, crochet or embroider, meets on the third Tuesday and first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the library.

The Kids’ Community Closet is a “free-cycle” community space to share kids’ clothes (birth through size 14/16). All clothing is free and in good, very gently used condition — some items still have tags on. There are no applications, income requirements, or donations necessary.

The Kids’ Community Closet is located at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, and noon to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
