In celebration of America’s semiquincentennial, America250PA is putting on a Pennsylvania-wide concert series this summer. Pittsburgh is the final stop with two blockbuster headliners.
The free concert is set for June 27 at Point State Park and will be headlined by rapper Nelly and alt-rockers Third Eye Blind.
The Commonwealth Concert Series will also make stops in State College, Hershey, Erie and Wilkes-Barre earlier in June, with artists including Gabby Barrett, The Fray, The Avett Brothers and Lady A set to perform in various locations.
“Pennsylvania provided an important part of America’s founding, and we are excited to be part of the 250th birthday celebration across the Commonwealth,” Pittsburgh mayor Corey O’Connor said in a release. “We look forward to welcoming Pittsburghers and visitors alike to Point State Park to enjoy the concert, celebrate our arts and culture and share the energy of our local communities and businesses.”
This will be a quick return for rapper Nelly, who is set to perform April 22 on the North Shore as part of the NFL Draft. The pioneer of Midwestern hip-hop has achieved 15 top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including No. 1 singles “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” “Dilemma,” “Grillz” and “Hot in Herre.”
Though his superstardom peaked in the 2000s, Nelly maintains 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Third Eye Blind found success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with their 1997 self-titled debut album going six times platinum. Their hits “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Never Let You Go,” “Jumper” and “How’s It Going To Be” all peaked within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 between 1997 and 2000.
Those wishing to attend the June 27 show will need to reserve free tickets, and more details on those reservations will be released soon. Visit America250PA.org/Concert_Series to learn more and sign up for alerts.
