Murrysville native Palmer Jackson won his first Minor League Golf Tour event in dramatic fashion.

The Franklin Regional High School and Notre Dame grad claimed the Palm Beach County Open by sinking a birdie on the final hole Thursday.

The tournament was shortened to 45 holes because of weather during the second round. Jackson shot a 64, 33 and 66 for a total of 163.

Jackson and Grant Haefner had an epic battle during the final round, and it came down to the last hole.

They were tied for the lead, and two shots ahead of the field and both had birdie looks.

Haefner was first to putt from 15 feet and left it just short.

Jackson had a 12-footer for the win. His putt stopped on the lip on the high side, but a gust of wind pushed the ball into the hole.

Jackson took his time and watched the wind work in his favor.

Some questioned if the ball fell within 10 seconds allowed by the rules of golf, and after reviewing the video it was determined that the ball fell in after 7.3 seconds.

This was Jackson’s third win as a professional but first on the MLGT.

He earned $8,000 from the $45,055 purse plus $469 from the bonus pool.
