The WPIAL Section 3-3A boys tennis championship match featured two opponents who are familiar with each others’ games. Shady Side Academy freshman Max Bunimovich beat teammate Thomas Luther, who retired in the final.
Bunimovich lost in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, dropping a 11-9 match to Hempfield senior Christian Schrumpf. Luther lost 10-3 to Sewickley Academy freshman Jonah Harmon.
Kinst honored
Franciscan University swimmer and Fox Chapel graduate Katie Kinst was named to the 2025-26 Academic All-District women’s swimming and diving team selected by the College Sports Communicators.
This was the second year Kinst was selected for the award, which is given to swimmers holding a 3.6 GPA or higher and competing in 75% of the team’s meets.
Kinst earned All-PAC honors by placing eighth in the 200 freestyle this past season.
Ellwood commits
Foxes senior lineman Aidan Ellwood recently announced that he will play football at Seton Hill next season. Ellwood helped the Foxes finish 3-7 last season. Seton Hill finished 4-7 last season but pulled off a shocking upset of No. 6 California.
Volleyball win
The Fox Chapel boys volleyball team found a way to pick up a few wins in section play early in the schedule. Fox Chapel survived a 3-2 marathon win over North Hills on the road. The Foxes also swept Penn Hills.
Bouncing back
The Fox Chapel boys lacrosse team may have been disappointed with a loss to Pine-Richland before spring break. But the Foxes put all of that behind them when they returned. Fox Chapel rolled past North Hills, 21-6, and followed that up with a shutout win over Central Catholic to improve to 5-1.
Ready to get going
The Shady Side Academy softball team will be itching to get its season in a rhythm. The Bulldogs have only been able to play two Section 2-2A games so far.
Shady Side Academy has seen three of its games postponed by bad weather this season.
