Hempfield Area junior Madison Altman had quite a day during the Lady Spartan/Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.
Altman won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and anchored the winning 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams for the second consecutive season.
“I am happy,” Altman said of her performance. “There is still a lot of work to be done. There are things I have to fix, but overall, I am happy about it. It was a wonderful effort.
“This is a fun meet. Everyone is happy and having a good time. For me, it was relaxing.”
Senior Chesnee Smith won the 1,600- and 800-meter runs for the Spartans, and freshman Lyla Moody ran away with the 3,200-meter title.
In the field, senior Tessa Trageser had a personal record of 11 feet, 4 inches in winning the pole vault, and senior Jiana Patterson won the shot put (37-9).
Hempfield girls ran away with the team title. The Spartans finished with 147 points. Franklin Regional was second with 64.
Hollidaysburg freshman Jaclyn Sahlaney won the 100 and 200, and Geibel senior Emma Larkin won the 400.
Franklin Regional junior Jamie Kociela won the high jump, clearing 5-5, and senior Maria Piraino won the javelin (111-4).
Other field winners were Homer-Center junior Maggie Voyda (discus, 123-7), Kiski Area sophomore Alaysia Bell (triple jump, 36-6 1/2, and Connellsville junior Rylee Leasher, who set a school record in the long jump (17-5).
Franklin Regional junior Sean Cartwright was a double winner. He took the 110-hurdles and high jump (6-5). He also placed third in the 300 hurdles.
“I have practiced hard for my events,” Cartwright said. “I happy with 6-5 in the high jump, but 6-7 would have been nice.
“I had a personal record in the hurdles. I was proud of my effort.”
Latrobe junior Preston Miller won the 100 and 200 for the second consecutive season.
Hempfield senior Jonathan Stetchock was a triple winner. He anchored the winning 3,200-meter relay team and won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.
Greensburg Central Catholic senior Jerry Davis won the 400, Hollidaysburg sophomore Braelyn Rose won the 300 hurdles and Indiana junior Kaiden Branan took the 800.
In the field, Hollidaysburg freshman Devin Walters won the long jump (21-11), and senior Cole Delattre won the triple jump (44-11 1/2).
Mt. Pleasant junior Gage Sowers won the pole vault (13-7), Latrobe freshman Connor Donahue took the javelin (167-5), Connellsville senior Glen Strickler rallied to win the shot put (57-4) and Belle Vernon senior Ryan Kent grabbed the discus (174-4).
Hempfield Area boys edged Franklin Regional, 75-72, for the team title.
