Butler dominated the sprints and walked away with the boys team title at the TSTCA Outdoor Championships on Saturday at West Mifflin.
Logan Ekas won the 100 and 200, Carter Ekas won the 400, and they teamed up to win the 400 relay for the Golden Tornado. Other Butler winners were Nicco Baggetta in the javelin and the 3,200 relay team.
Moon, Norwin, Canon-McMillan and Grove City rounded out the top five in the boys team race.
For the Big Macs, Aaron Taylor swept the hurdles and Connor Rolek won the pole vault.
Other boys winners from the WPIAL were the Moon 1,600 relay team, Upper St. Clair’s Nolan Sarkett in the 1,600, Pine-Richland’s Charlie Kapanowski in the 3,200, Thomas Jefferson’s Isaac Fant in the high jump and Plum’s Sloan Humphries in the triple jump.
Led by wins from Maya Currie in the 800 and Taylor Neese in the shot put, North Allegheny took the girls team title.
North Catholic, Moon, Norwin and South Fayette rounded out the top five.
Upper St. Clair’s Sadie Tomczak swept the 100 and 200.
Winchester Thurston had three champs with DaShae Cochran in the long jump, Alexis Bansah in the triple jump and Izabelle Bansah in the discus.
South Fayette got wins from Angela Zeng in the 3,200 and Delaney Schumaker in the 100 hurdles. Rachel Stepp took the 400 and the 1,600 relay team won for Moon.
Other girls winners from the WPIAL were Norwin’s Annie Czajkowski in the 1,600, Mt. Lebanon’s Lily Cramer in the 30 hurdles, Trinity’s Ella Sammel in the high jump, Shaler’s Jayla Antomacci in the javelin, Freeport’s Mackenzie Magness in the pole vault, the North Catholic 400 relay and Shady Side Academy 3,200 relay.
Beaver County Championships – Bruce Sutter won the 200 and 400 meters to lead Beaver to the team championship at Riverside.
The Beaver boys also got first-place finishes from the 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams and Mason Maybray in the high jump. Layla Hornsby in the 1,600 and the 1,600 relay team won for the Bobcat girls.
Harley Hample won the 200 and 400 and was part of the winning 400 relay team to lead Hopewell to a second-place team finish.
The Vikings also got wins from Tessa Burgess in the 100 hurdles and Marlee Page in the javelin on the girls side and Bryce Ray in the long jump and Luke McGrail in the 110 hurdles on the boys side.
Blackhawk finished third in the team race with six first-place finishes in a variety of events.
For the girls, winners were Hallie Roman in the 800, Alaina Desarbo in the 3,200, Piper Fichter in the high jump and the 3,200 relay team. Boys winners were Brayden McCarthy in the 100 and Efrain Barron in the discus.
Central Valley finished fourth with wins from Jackson Super in the boys pole vault, Dar’Ae Harris in the boys 300 hurdle, Avery Sullivan in the girls triple jump and the boys 400 relay team.
Lucas Bleakney was the only three-time individual champ, winning the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 to lead Ellwood City to a fifth-place finish in the team race. Drake Davis also won the shot put for the Wolverines.
Other winners on the boys side were Freedom’s Karter Brown in the javelin and Aliquippa’s Akiva Woods in the triple jump.
Freedom’s Trinity Vojtko was double winner in the field, taking first in the shot put and discus.
Other girls winners were Riverside’s Allie Barzen in the 100 and Breanna Pietro in the pole vault, Beaver Falls’ Ver’Kelle Rains in the 300 hurdles and Ambridge’s Sierra Tyson in the long jump.
Chartiers-Houston Invitational – Winning six individual events and a relay, Fort Cherry swept the boys and girls team titles.
On the boys side, Christian Yanosko picked up the unusual double of the 300 hurdles and discus. On the girls side, Rangers winners were Isabella Bianchini in the 800, Brooke Cornali in the high jump, Sophia Holmes in the javelin, Julie Klose in the shot and the 3,200 relay team.
Neighborhood Academy’s Deayja Cain was a big winner in the girls meet, taking first in the 100, 200 and 400. The Bulldogs also won the 400 relay.
There were three double winners on the girls side: Chartiers-Houston’s Amelia Brose in the 100 and 300 hurdles and Kiera Drilak in the long and triple jumps and Carlynton’s Lani Blevins in the 1,600 and 3.200. Other girls winners were Chartiers-Houston’s Brooklyn Havelka in the discus and the Trinity Christian 1,600 relay team.
In the boys meet, Beth-Center’s Deakyn DeHoet was a double winner, sweeping the 100 and 200. So was Washington’s Tyler Crawford, who won the long and triple jumps.
McGuffey finished second in the team race behind first-place finishes from Gavin Bussey in the 110 hurdles, Ben Piatt in the 1,600, Robert Miller in the shot put and the 3,200 relay team.
Chartiers-Houston was third in the team race with wins from Josh Spencer in the 400 and the 400 and 1, 1600 relay teams.
Other boys winners were Carlynton’s Ethan Moldovan in the 3,200 and Dewayne Fisher in the high jump, California’s Carter Kent in the 800 and Burgettstown’s Aidan Stratus in the javelin.
Baseball
Albert Gallatin 4, Steel Valley 0 – Kanyon Sutton went 2 for 2, drove in a run and pitched four innings, giving up three hits and striking out two, as Albert Gallatin (1-7) shut out Steel Valley (4-5) in a nonsection game. Colton Harvey threw three innings for the Colonials, giving up three hits and striking out three. Immanuel Owens went 2 for 3 for Steel Valley.
Mohawk 7, New Castle 5 – Vinny Pezuolo homered and drove in two runs as Mohawk (6-1) beat New Castle (6-3) in a nonsection game. Landon Schmid added two RBIs for Mohawk. Carlo DeSalvo went 2 for 2 and drove in all four New Castle runs.
Softball
Kiski Area 19, McKeesport 0 – Dakota Rainey went 3 for 3 with two doubles and six RBIs as Kiski Area (9-2, 6-2) had 19 hits, including seven extra-base hits, in its three-inning Section 2-5A over McKeesport (1-7, 0-7). Alyssa Perona went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, four RBIs and four runs scored for Kiski Area, which scored 15 runs in the second inning. Winning pitcher Aubrey West allowed three hits and fanned three in three innings. Tori Thomas had two of McKeesport’s hits.
Neshannock 8, Wilmington 2 – Gabriella Antuono went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs as Neshannock (6-1) defeated Wilmington in a nonsection game. Alivia Lambo added a home run and three RBIs for Neshannock. Gianna Paglia picked up the complete-game win, striking out nine and allowing five hits.
