Three firefighters and a resident were taken to the hospital Sunday after a large fire broke out in a Glassport apartment building.
Officials said the fire began around 1:30 p.m. in a bedroom unit of one apartment building before quickly spreading to a second apartment building, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.
Neighbors told WTAE the fire on the 600 block of Indiana Avenue sounded like “a bomb went off.”
About 100 firefighters from at least a dozen companies battled the blaze for more than five hours, according to WTAE. Both structures were later demolished.
In addition to those taken to the hospital, two firefighters were treated on scene for smoke inhalation, and nearby buildings also suffered smoke damage, according to WTAE.
