Pet owners in need can get a helping hand 24/7 through a Tarentum nonprofit.

Paws Across Pittsburgh on East Sixth Avenue unveiled a blessing box Friday, stocked with small bags of food for dogs and cats.

“This special box is here to support pet families who may be going through a tough time, because no beloved pet should ever go hungry,” organizers wrote on social media.

“Whether you need a little help or know someone who does, please feel free to stop by and take what you need.”

The group, founded by Springdale resident Jackie Armour in 2016, is a foster-based animal rescue that saves, rehabs and finds permanent homes for abused or unwanted dogs and cats.

They are pulled from overcrowded shelters and abusive homes, or rescued after natural disasters.

The group is 100% volunteer-run and has rescued more than 5,000 animals since opening.

Passersby might recognize the site at 413 E. Sixth Ave. because of its bright murals around the building painted by Penn Hills artist Sean Coffey.

Anyone interested is encouraged to donate to the Blessing Box.
