While transfers have begun to roll in for Pitt men’s basketball this spring, the Panthers had yet to land a player who was a proven scorer over multiple seasons.

That changed Monday when former Syracuse and Georgia Tech point guard Naithan George announced a commitment on Instagram.

George, who will be a senior for the 2026-27 campaign, follows forward Dominique Diomande (BYU/Washington), plus guards Jonathan Powell (North Carolina/West Virginia) and Jalil Bethea (Alabama/Miami) as the fourth member of Pitt’s incoming class of transfers.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Toronto, George spent last season at Syracuse, where he started 32 games for the Orange, scoring 10.9 points with 5.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds per contest.

George was a full-time starter for Georgia Tech in his two seasons there (2023-25) and played 63 games for the Yellow Jackets.

In 2024-25, he averaged a career-high 12.3 points and 6.5 assists per game. As a true freshman the season prior, he scored 9.8 points with 4.7 assists on average.

George should factor in as Pitt’s starting point guard, after Damarco Minor having graduated and Omari Witherspoon transferred.

Along with Witherspoon, guard Brandin Cummings, forwards Roman Siulepa and Papa Amadou Kante and center Kieran Mullen all entered the transfer portal.
