The Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency (WCTPA) today announced the release of its 2025 Annual Report, showcasing a year of significant economic impact, strong visitor growth, and strategic investments that continue to position Washington County as a premier regional destination. The full 2025 WCTPA Annual Report is available at heyzine.com.
The Annual Report underscores the importance of the visitor economy in Washington County and demonstrates how tourism continues to be an important economic driver in the overall economy. According to the most recent data available from Tourism Economics, Washington County’s tourism industry generated $1.3 billion in total business sales and $764.9 million in direct visitor spending. This report compiled for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania also highlights how the tourism industry supported 8,663 jobs and delivered $429.5 million in labor income in the county, showcasing tourism’s importance to the county’s workforce and overall economic stability.
“Tourism in Washington County is not just about visitation, but also economic vitality, community development, and quality of life,” said Jeff Kotula, President of the WCTPA. “The data in this annual report demonstrates the tangible return on investment our tourism efforts deliver for our partners, businesses, as well as the residents and municipalities across the county.”
Strong Visitation and Growing Demand
Data from Placer.ai, a location intelligence software platform, shows that the county saw upwards of 1.6 million total trips, including nearly 964,000 combined unique overnight stays with an average stay of 3.1 days resulting in approximately 2.0 million total visit nights-reflecting the county’s growing appeal as a multi-day destination for visitors who reside 50 miles away and a key indicator of visitor engagement and economic impact. WCTPA’s use of Placer analytics has fundamentally changed how the visitor journey is viewed and provides key insights on where travelers originate, where and how long they visit, as well as where they go once they depart.
The data highlighted Washington County’s position as a strong regional destination from key markets including Pittsburgh, Cleveland-Akron, and Johnstown-Altoona.
Strategic Marketing Driving Measurable Results
WCTPA’s integrated, data-driven marketing strategy delivered substantial reach and engagement in 2025, including:
• 27.0 million television impressions
• 16.0 million digital impressions
• 12.4 million paid social media impressions
• 638,000 website sessions
• 476,000 new website users
• 558,000 email marketing impressions
A new strategic partnership with Relay helped to expand WCTPA’s digital reach in the content creator community and resulted in the creation of more than 125 short-form videos. Relay is a platform that connects businesses with vetted local content creators to produce and post authentic social media content that drives real customer engagement and traffic. These videos generated 789,000 views and are a catalyst for increased engagement with younger travel audiences.
The WCTPA was also recognized nationally with a Silver Telly Award for its innovative marketing campaign and highly successful promotion of BeetleBar, a Beetlejuice themed pop-up bar, at The Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. This was WCTPA’s fourth Telly Award win over the past several years.
Investing in Communities and Catalyzing Future Growth
In 2025, WCTPA invested $678,588 in tourism grants and sponsorships, directly supporting festivals, events, and destination development projects throughout the county. Since the program’s inception, total investment has reached $3.4 million, directly enhancing visitor experiences and supporting local organizations.
Additionally, WCTPA committed over $1.6 million to The American Spirit Grant Program, aimed at supporting community-based projects in each of Washington County’s 66 municipalities that will leave a legacy in recognition of the nationwide celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
The Annual Report also highlights several forward-looking initiatives, including a study commissioned to examine the feasibility and economic impact of a proposed event center. The study concluded that a ‘right-sized’ facility would generate significant economic impact from the construction and an estimated $22 million in annually recurring economic impact once operational. The facility would strategically fill a gap in the region for mid-sized venues, attracting concerts, conferences, and new visitor segments to the county.
Other notable developments include enhanced visitor amenities at Meadowcroft Rockshelter & Historic Village and continued investment in signature events, attractions, and partnerships that drive visitation and overnight stays.
A Foundation for Continued Momentum
With sustainable growth in visitation, continued multi-channel marketing and promotional efforts, and strategic investment, Washington County is well-positioned to build on this momentum in the years ahead.
“From record economic impact to transformative community investments, 2025 was a hugely positive year for the tourism economy in Washington County,” said Kotula. “Our team continues to remain focused on expanding our reach, strengthening our partnerships, and supporting events, attractions, and initiatives that will benefit both visitors and our communities.”
