Antique Appraisal
Scour the attic and basement for forgotten treasures and bring them to the Sewickley Antique Appraisal and Donation Day on April 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Old Sewickley Post Office, 200 Broad St.
The Sewickley Valley Historical Society will host professional antique appraisers, including Sewickley’s own John Kroeck. For a donation of $10 to $20, you can have up to three items appraised for your personal reference.

At this event, SVHS will also accept donations to bring our collection up to date, particularly post-WWII materials. We accept yearbooks, family photos, letters, maps, blueprints, journals, scrapbooks, ledgers, books, and postcards with ties to Quaker Valley School District.
Library event
Sewickley Public Library will host Sahaja meditation from 11 a.m. to noon on April 25 at 500 Thorn St. Enjoy the silence, peace and stress release that is always free with this weekly meditation program.

‘The Spirit of ’76’
Join the Sewickley Valley Historical Society and the Lindsay Theater in exploring history as it is portrayed and preserved through film. At 7 p.m. April 30, The Lindsay Theater will be showing “The Spirit of ’76.” This quirky film follows three futuristic time travelers on a quest to 1776 to retrieve U.S. Constitution. Instead, they end up in 1976, as America is celebrating the Bicentennial. Cleanup planned
Leetsdale will host its Earth Day Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon April 25. Volunteers will meet at the borough building for supplies. Lunch will be served afterward.

House tour
Child Health Association of Sewickley will host the Sewickley House Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 1-2.
The Sewickley House Tour takes place throughout the Sewickley area. Exact home locations are revealed at check-in.
Ticket prices are $50 for individuals, $225 for a group of five and $425 for a group of 10.
Single ticket prices are good through April 28. They go up to $55 on the day of the event.
Tickets are valid for both days of the tour. Each home may be toured once per ticket.

Film fest
Sewickley Public Library is hosting an April Fools’ Film Fest every Friday in April from 2-4:30 p.m. at 500 Thorn St.
Library staff have selected a variety of comedies to brighten people’s spring. Light refreshments will be provided. No registration is required.

Home safety checks
Sewickley Valley YMCA recently launched a program designed to help seniors stay independent and live safe at home.
The free service provides certified home safety assessments for seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties, helping reduce fall risks and increase confidence.
A specialist walks through the home with the resident and completes a certified checklist that looks at lighting, flooring, steps, bathrooms, grab bar placement and general fall risks.
Several YMCA employees were certified through Age Safe America, which establishes national best practices for senior home safety.
Staffers will also provide resources on how to address proposed upgrades.

Pedal with Police
Quaker Valley School District will host its annual Pedal with Police event May 9. Registration is open but not required. People can sign up the day of the free event.
Participants will meet at Osborne Elementary at 9 a.m. for sign-in. Riders at 10 a.m. will travel down Beaver Street to Edgeworth Elementary for a bike rodeo complete with an obstacle course, safety lessons from local police and free bike inspections from Pittsburgh bike shop Pro Bikes.
Other activities include face painting, raffles and food.
The event is organized by Quaker Valley Police officer Tom Liberty in partnership with Sewickley and Allegheny County Police. Other local departments are also expected to participate.
Liberty said the free event is designed to get district and local law enforcement interacting with families outside of a school or emergency setting.
Edgeworth and Osborne Home School associations made donations for bike raffles.
Guest deejay Edgeworth Police Lt. Bill Och will provide music.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sewickley will provide hot dogs. The Rev. Ryan Kobert will do a blessing of the bikes prior to the ride.

Cleanup day
Aleppo’s annual Earth Day Roadside Cleanup is set for 9 a.m. to noon April 26.
Volunteers may meet at 8:45 a.m. for coffee and donuts at the township building before heading out to pick up trash along several roadways.

Board/commission vacancies
Leet has several vacancies that need to be filled.
They are a six-year term on the Civil Service Commission, a six-year alternate seat on the Civil Service Commission and a five-year seat on the Quaker Valley Ambulance Board.

The following voting meetings are planned for this month:
• Aleppo commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. April 20 at the township building, 100 North Drive.
• Glen Osborne council will meet at 7 p.m. April 21 at Osborne Elementary School, 1414 Beaver St.
• Sewickley Heights council will meet at 4:30 p.m. April 20 at the borough building, 238 Country Club Road.
Healthy Kids Day
Sewickley Valley YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18 at 625 Blackburn Road.
Healthy Kids Day is a national YMCA initiative focused on improving the health and well-being of children and families.
The free event offers family activities, demonstrations and opportunities to connect with local organizations. No registration is required.
Activities include a balloon artist, face painting, a bounce house, gaga ball, raffles and giveaways, including YMCA membership, free youth and preschool swimming lessons, a free camp session and a YMCA birthday package.
Sewickley police will host a digital safety presentation for families.

Leetsdale 4th of July
The Leetsdale 4th of July committee is looking for parade participants. Create a float, decorate your bike or just create a theme and walk. Join the historic 250th anniversary celebration of the United States on Saturday, July 4, and continue a tradition that dates back to 1943 in the borough.

Sweetwater summer camps
Registration is open for summer camp at Sweetwater Center for the arts, which now has flexible scheduling designed to support families all summer.
Community feedback showed the need to expand the camps all day through the summer. Expect children of all ages to explore their artistic side, meet new friends and be surrounded by creativity.
Camp options include:
• Early Childhood Camps (ages 4-6): 9 a.m.-noon. Imaginative, hands-on mornings filled with artmaking, clay and culinary exploration in a nurturing age-appropriate environment.
• Children’s All-Day Camps (ages 7-11): 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Gives kids more time to create, connect and dive deeper into their artistic interests— and families the flexibility of an all-day program.
• Teen Camps (ages 12-15): 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Offers skill-building and creative growth just for teens; select programs are offered as a full-day experience.

Tapas Talks to explore wellness, photography
The Tapas Talks’ 2026 season includes Holistic Health & Wellness: A Functional Medicine Perspective on May 7 and A Photographer’s Journey: From the Gridiron to the Garden on Oct. 22.

AUP inviting singles 50-plus to join
The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people.
Activities to name a few are happy hour, brunches, lunches, dinners, meet-ups at music venues, a nontraditional book group, day trips and Scrabble.

SMC Club, an affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, will feature Felicia Trovato of the FBI on April 17, who will discuss the current threat. On April 24, Jack Teitz, a Big 10 referee, will talk about the name, the likeness and image controversy in college sports. Lindsay Dill of the Allegheny Land Trust will speak on May 18, and the May 15 meeting will feature Tuesday Music Group. There will be no Meeting on May 22 because of Memorial Day. Fern Hollow Nature Center
As spring arrives, Fern Hollow will take its education into the field.
April’s Nature & Nurture Hike for children up to age 5 and a caretaker will take place at Henle Park in Leetsdale on April 20 from 10-11 a.m. Designed to be child-led, terrain is easy to moderate, and the total length will be determined by the participants. Story time and a simple craft are included with the hike.
The Sewickley Valley Conservation Association and Fern Hollow Nature Center are hosting their annual Youth Mentored Trout Fishing Day on April 18 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
A highlight for young anglers, this free event provides a unique opportunity for youth to learn the art of fishing under the guidance of experienced mentors at a private local lake. A shuttle service will run every 15 minutes to take participants from Esmark Fields to the lake. Registration is encouraged at fhnc.org.
21st Colosimo golf outing
The 21st annual Anthony Colosimo Memorial Golf Outing is set for June 5 at the Beaver Valley Golf Club, 725 Sixth Ave. in Patterson Heights, Beaver Falls.
The cost is $150 per golfer until June 1. Golfer fees paid after June 1 will increase to $175. Those wishing to sign up as a foursome must register by June 1.
Registration at the event starts at 8 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. followed by lunch at 2 p.m.
Sponsorship opportunities are available from a $100 tee or green sign to a $1,000 gold package that includes golf and lunch for four.
All proceeds benefit the Quaker Valley Rotary Foundation.
