Two residents and two firefighters were sent to the hospital early Thursday morning after a three-alarm blaze tore through a Lawrenceville row home.
Crews were called to the fire around 12:45 a.m. on the 3400 block of Ligonier Street in Lower Lawrenceville.
A man living at the home was rescued by firefighters using a ladder truck after he escaped through the attic of the home, according to a statement from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire. He sustained first-degree burns to his face and second and third-degree burns to his hands, the statement said.
A resident woman was also transported to the hospital in stable condition for smoke inhalation, according to firefighters.
Two firefighters later followed them after one sustained a hip injury and another minor facial burns, the statement said.
Photos of the scene appear to show extensive damage to the home. A nearby unoccupied structure also saw significant damage from the blaze, according to firefighters.
At one point, a floor collapsed inside one of the structures with firefighters inside — leading to a mayday call — but no one was injured, the statement said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
