The impending NHL hockey playoff series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers has even the state’s governor getting in on the action.

Though he represents all of Pennsylvania, Gov. Josh Shapiro says he is decidedly a Philadelphia fan when it comes to sports. Shapiro made a friendly wager with ESPN analyst and Plum native Pat McAfee this week on McAfee’s television show.

“I’m excited for the Flyers and the Pens, but I’m a Flyers fan, I’m a Philly sports fan, I’m honest about it,” Shapiro said.

That led McAfee to issue a challenge — if the Pens win, Shapiro will have to wear a tank top to work and if the Flyers win, McAfee will wear a suit on his show.

McAfee graduated from Plum High School in 2005 and later was a punter for West Virginia University and the Indianapolis Colts.

Shapiro was on McAfee’s show Tuesday to announce the UFC will hold a bout in Philadelphia on Aug. 15.

The NHL has not released a schedule for the Pens-Flyers games.
