Sharpsburg residents are encouraged to get their hands dirty Saturday, April 18, for a good cause.

Sponsored by the borough and the Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization, an Earth Day cleanup will be from 9 to 11 a.m.

“Sharpsburg is a community that takes pride in working together,” Mayor Kayla Portis said.

The cleanup is a perfect example of how collaborative efforts can transform the “place we all love and share,” she said.

Anyone interested can meet at 8:30 a.m. at the borough building for coffee and doughnuts. Groups will be disbursed to Kennedy Park, James Sharp Landing, under the 62nd Street Bridge and everywhere in between.

Volunteers will collect litter, trash and other debris from parks and streets in an effort to keep the borough clean and welcoming.

Trash collected in bags can be placed along Main Street and will be picked up by the public works crews. Residents of all ages are welcome to participate.

“This is really about neighbors showing up for each other and for Sharpsburg,” said Jodi Klebick, SNO executive director.

The cleanup is being held earlier than usual because of the NFL Draft on April 23-25.

“We want outside visitors to really see Sharpsburg shine,” Klebick said.

Volunteers can gather for pizza at 11 a.m.
