• The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s annual Hat Luncheon will be May 9 at Greensburg Country Club, 309 Pleasant Valley Road, Hempfield. A champagne reception will be at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. There will be music and a basket raffle. Fascinators and hats welcome. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Cost: $85. Baltzer Meyer Historical Society open house, noon to 4 p.m. April 19 at the Harrold Schoolhouse, 642 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield. Murrysville Garden Club will host a program, “Peonies and the Glory of the Perennial Garden,” with Penn State Master Gardener Bill Goff at 10:30 a.m. April 23 at Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road. Public welcome.
Meeting

Outdoors
A free fishing derby for all ages will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 at Mammoth Park, Mt. Pleasant Township. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at pavilion 12. Anglers 16 and older must display a valid 2026 Pennsylvania fishing license. All youth participants registered by noon will be entered into a drawing for prizes. First and second place trophies and merchandise will be awarded for longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in adult and youth categories. The event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, Walmart, Somerset Trust Company and the Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League. Senior citizen news
• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have a program about loss and bereavement at 10 a.m. April 21 A National Picnic Day lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes will be served at 11 a.m. April 23.
