Fox Chapel Area High School will host Rob Waller’s All-American Wrestling Club & Camp on June 15-19. The event, which will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday, is open to wrestlers from all school programs for all age and experience levels.
The camp will feature coaches who have long resumes of success in wrestling.
Robbie Waller was a state champion at Mt. Pleasant before going on to wrestle at Oklahoma. He was a NCAA champion in 2003 and a two-time All-American.
Evan Henderson, an assistant coach at North Carolina, was a two-time NCAA All-American and a two-time freestyle national team member.
Troy Letters, a Shaler graduate, also will be one of the instructors. He is a former state and NCAA champion. Letters wrestled collegiately at Lehigh.
Letters’ daughter, Blythe, has followed in his footsteps. She is 59-11 in her career at Shaler. She placed third in the state and won the regional title this past season.
Weathering adversity
The Fox Chapel softball team finds itself in what will be an exciting race in Section 1-5A. Fox Chapel lost to North Hills, 4-1, on April 15, which was its third loss in its last four section games.
The Foxes (8-4, 5-4) were tied for fourth place with New Castle following the loss to the Indians. Defending WPIAL champion Shaler halted Fox Chapel’s five-game winning streak with a narrow 1-0 win. The Foxes then lost 6-1 to Plum.
Lacrosse win
The Fox Chapel boys lacrosse team was strong defensively during a win over North Allegheny. The Foxes limited the Tigers to fewer than 10 goals in an 8-7 win over the road.
Foxes stumble
The Fox Chapel boys volleyball team missed out on an opportunity to grab momentum against Gateway. The Foxes fell in a five-set matchup in section play.
Trip to Mars
The Fox Chapel baseball team hasn’t swept a section opponent since opening with a pair of wins over Shaler to start the section schedule. Playing against Mars didn’t yield any different results.
The Foxes lost on the road 6-3 to split with the Planets. Fox Chapel (5-6, 4-4) also split with New Castle and dropped a pair of games with Pine-Richland.
