Senior shortstop Adalina Bracco went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and sophomore catcher Jemma Danko doubled and knocked in a run to lead Thomas Jefferson to a 10-0 section win April 9 against Albert Gallatin.

Sophomore utility player Madden Stanek and sophomore 3B Zoie DeCostro also doubled for the Jaguars, who also blanked AG, 5-0, earlier in the season.

TJ also defeated Trinity, 3-2, on April 13 to improve to 7-1 in Section 4-5A and 8-2 overall. It was the Jaguars sixth victory in their last seven games.

DeCostro doubled and drove in a run against Trinity. Stanek also knocked in a run.

Junior pitcher Aubrey Shaffer yielded two runs on three hits and struck out eight for the Jaguars.

Flying high

Sophomore outfielder Camryn Temme, senior outfielder Mackenzie Bowen and senior shortstop Jordan Gerendash sparked the Baldwin softball team to a 10-5 section win April 9 at Trinity.

Temme went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Bowen drove in two and Jordan Gerendash doubled and knocked in a run.

The Highlanders defeated Peters Township, 7-0, and Connellsville, 7-2, following the win against the Hillers to improve to 8-0 in Section 4-5A and 10-1 overall.

Winning pitcher Melina DeFelice gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and struck out nine against Connellsville. DeFelice also doubled and drove in a run.

Senior outfielder Reese Temme went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and sophomore outfielder Camryn Temme doubled and drove in a run for the Highlanders.

Wrestling recap

The Highlanders finished 3-1 in section action and 10-8 overall.

Islamov, who placed seventh at 114 pounds in the WPIAL and ended up 32-9 overall, led the way in 2025-26 for senior team members Parraish Brinson and Andre Diven; and juniors Jason Alex, Mahbobullah Amini, Dylan Fleming, Mike Griffiths, Donovan Kaecher, Colby Kobelak, Mikko Kustron, Jordan Lapen, Ayden Miller, Colson Porada, Chris Rayburg, Efrain Sanabria, Devan Stanziano, Gavin Ulmer, Tyler Webb and Richard Zwolinski.

The sophomore class was represented by Krishmat Adhikari, Aiden Guthrie, Samuel Salako, Teague Toki and Elham Zahid.

Along with Islamov, Baldwin’s freshmen included Jaxson David, Angelina Dayoub, Tyler Dayoub, Tyler Dayoub, Mohammed Mahmood, Andrew Palko, Pranita Pokhrel, Ryan Summerfield and Akhmed Yusupov.

Griffiths posted a 28-10 record at 139, Guthrie was 23-15 at 133 while Yusupov finished 20-13 at 121.

Baldwin racked up a 5-0 record at the Valley Duals this season, defeating Brownsville, Ligonier Valley, Riverview, Mount Pleasant and Summit Academy as Guthrie, Griffiths and Miller led the charge.

Gremba honored

Baldwin senior Brayden Gremba, a 6-foot-3 right-side hitter, was cited April 13 as a Class 3A player of the week by the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.

Hempfield setter Landen Kalp, Upper St. Clair outside hitter Aidan Chambers and North Hills outside hitter Max Jarock joined Gremba as 3A players of the week. Kalp is a senior; Chambers and Jarock are juniors.

A win for TJ

Senior pitcher Colin Pearson gave up three hits and struck out eight in five innings and sophomore reliever Noah Sear didn’t allow a hit in two innings April 13 to lift Thomas Jefferson past Montour, 5-0, in Section 4-5A baseball game.

Eli Graff, a junior first baseman, doubled and drove in two runs for the Jaguars, who improved to 4-1 in section play and 8-3 overall.

TJ, Baldwin and Montour were tied for first place in the section.

Baldwin breaks out bats

Baldwin defeated Gateway, 13-2, in five innings April 13 in a Section 4-5A baseball game at Wallace Field.

Senior Aiden Robinson homered and drove in three runs while junior Devin Staziano (2 for 3) and sophomore Hudson McKain each doubled and had three RBIs for the Highlanders, who boosted their record to 4-1 in section play and 7-2 overall.

Spartans victorious

Senior pitcher Emma Thompson surrendered just one hit and struck out four in five innings April 13 to propel Brentwood a Section 2-2A softball win over Springdale.

Freshman Ella Dusch doubled and drove in a run for the Spartans (4-4, 3-2).
