Sewickley Academy recently swept a Section 1-A softball doubleheader against Rochester, winning convincingly by scores of 16-1 and 16-0.

In Game 1, junior outfielder Cherish Wilson went 3 for 4 with a triple, two doubles and five RBIs, Keira Church, a junior shortstop, doubled and plated two runs, and senior second baseman Sanaa Grant doubled and drove in a run.

In Game 2, sophomore pitcher Charlotte Andrews struck out 12 in a four-inning no-hitter while sophomore catcher Gabby Edmunds tripled, doubled and had five RBIs.

Church doubled and knocked in three runs and Grant doubled and had two RBIs for the Panthers, who improved to 4-1 in the section and 4-1 overall.

Taming the Tigers

Quaker Valley defeated Beaver Falls on both the baseball and softball diamonds in recent section games.

QV’s baseball team won a 17-3 decision as sophomore outfielder Holden Kirkham went 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, senior shortstop Tristen Bemis drove in three runs and winning pitcher Todd Kagle, a senior, went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBIs.

As of April 13, the Quakers were 2-2 in Section 1-3A and 4-3 overall.

QV’s softball team rolled past the Tigers, 17-6, as senior center fielder Leah Weisser doubled and drove in two runs and senior left fielder Grace Carver went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Olivia Hoose, a senior hurler, was the winning pitcher.

The Quakers earned their first victory of the season to go to 1-2 in Section 2-3A and 1-4 overall.

Kagle also sparked QV to a 9-7 win in a nonsection baseball game against New Brighton by belting a pair of home runs and driving in four runs.

Senior catcher Brad Semonik also doubled and plated a run and sophomore hurler Caden Hanna was the winning pitcher.

The majority of players are underclassmen as there are just four seniors on the 2026 roster: Bemis (INF/OF), Kagle (SS/3B/P), Henry Zupanc (OF/P) and Brad Semonik (C/OF).

Noah Fardo (OF) and Kolton Johnson (3B/OF/P) are the only juniors. The sophomore class is represented by Mike Semonik (1B/OF), Mason Wydra (2B), Rafe Furfari (2B), Damien McClay (C/P/3B), Ian Benson (C), Kirkham (P/OF), Aidan Bellissimo (OF/P), Hanna (C/OF/P), James Bulger (INF/P) and Cameron Neal (OF/P).

Freshmen include Rocco Fardo (INF/P), Julian Jarrett (OF), Finn Runyard (OF), Eric Anderson (OF), Bobby Riordan (1B/P), Brody Zyroll (OF), Charlie Burns (OF/IF/P), Jake Neff (C/INF/P) and Henry Burns (INF).

The Quakers are particularly wealthy in the pitching department with 13 hurlers listed among the 25 players. Zupanc, Kagle, Johnson, McClay, Kirkham, Bellissimo, Hanna, Bulger, Neal, Rocco Fardo, Riordan, Charlie Burns and Neff are all pitchers.

Win for Panthers

Sewickley Academy stymied Union, 13-6, in a recent nonsection baseball game on the Panthers’ home field.

David Young, a junior infielder, went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs, sophomore infielder Austin Fritz and freshman outfielder Logan Berezney each drove in two runs and junior pitcher Jacob Stanislaw picked up a win.

The Panthers improved to 5-3.

QV lacrosse rolls on

Quaker Valley stormed past North Catholic, 18-6, in girls lacrosse action in Section 2-2A.

Sophomore Kate Miller had six goals and two assists for the Quakers. Alexa Westwood and Lucy Roig, both seniors, both added three goals and two assists.

Anna Campbell, a junior, and freshman Tess Krotine each had two goals. Freshman Grace Keisel and senior Mia Floro also scored for the winning side.
