Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jake Mangum on Sunday tossed a baseball to a young fan in the stands — but it’s what the boy did next that is warming hearts on social media.
The boy, donning a Pirates hat and a baseball glove, immediately hands the ball off to a young girl — wearing a Mangum jersey — standing next to him.
The two embrace in a lengthy hug, the girl clutching the ball and seemingly growing emotional.

Mangum told local radio show 93.7 The Fan that he saw the girl pointing to his name on the back of her jersey.
“I think that was the first time I’ve seen my jersey in the stadium. That was pretty cool,” he said in a clip posted The Fan’s social media page.
He said he pointed to her as she tossed the ball, but the boy next to her — who Mangum suggested was her brother — nabbed it. He said he knew they must be related because another man — likely their dad — pumped his fists and said, “yes, yes, yes.”
“It was awesome,” Mangum said.

The video of the boy’s catch and the heartfelt hug, posted to MLB’s social media, has generated lots of responses.
“This is what it’s all about,” one person commented. “The game is great, but these moments are everything.”
Another called the moment “another win for baseball.” Someone else praised the boy’s smooth catch.
“Is Pittsburgh the most wholesome city in America?” Another wrote. “We’re just clip farming today… good job yinzers!”
Mangum’s wife, Stacy, took to social media to respond to the clip too.
“My mama heart is so full… thanking the Lord everyday on this journey with Jake,” she said. “The sweetest video of this precious family!”
