Man injured in Lawrenceville shooting
A man was shot in Pittsburgh’s Central Lawrenceville neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
Police were dispatched to Butler Street near Stanton Avenue for reports of a shot fired down the road, public safety officials said.
Officers found a man with a single gunshot wound to his abdomen in the street. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he immediately went into surgery.
No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.
Gun discovered at Pittsburgh International Airport
Officials found a gun in a passenger’s carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday.
Transportation Security Administration officers found the weapon at the airport’s main security checkpoint around 5:36 a.m.
County police said Garrett Beattie, 43, of Cranberry did not have a valid concealed carry permit. He was charged with carrying a firearm without a license.
Passengers who bring guns into an airport security checkpoint also can face federal civil fines from the TSA of up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined nearly $14,000.
Dog attacks child, small dog in Verona
A dog in Verona attacked a smaller dog and a child Monday evening, Verona police said.
Officers were called around 5:12 p.m. to a report of a dog attack in the area of Riverbank Park along Arch Street.
The small dog was killed.
The child was injured and taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Police did not immediately release information about the extent of the child’s injuries.
Officers determined a dog had gotten loose from a nearby home and attacked the child and the smaller dog.
In a social media post Verona police said the owner of the dog will face criminal charges.
