Merchant Dianna Roney is ecstatic the Tarentum Night Market will return to East Sixth Avenue this year.

The owner of Diamond Antiques and Gifts said that having people mill around the business district, popping in and out of stores, is the exact purpose of the community event.

“That’s where it belongs, and I couldn’t be happier,” Roney said.

The market, founded in 2020, was in danger of not happening this summer after organizers said they couldn’t afford liability insurance costs.

Trib Total Media, parent company of TribLive and the Valley News Dispatch edition of the Tribune-Review, stepped in to sponsor the event and foot the insurance bill.

“We’re thrilled to see the Tarentum Night Market return this season,” said Jennifer Bertetto, President and CEO of Trib Total Media. “Supporting events like this is at the heart of what we believe in at the Trib. We want to celebrate the energy of our local communities. Tarentum has built something really special with this market, and we’re proud to help ensure it continues to grow and thrive.”

Organizer Brian DeFelice said the market is scheduled for three dates: May 14, June 11 and Aug. 13. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.

Tarentum Council approved the necessary permits. The stretch of East Sixth Avenue between Lock and Corbet streets has been designated as the official location for vendors, culinary delights and family friendly entertainment.

That portion of the road will be closed from 4 to 8 p.m. on market days to ensure safe vendor setup and event walkability.

“We kindly request the understanding and cooperation of local businesses and residents situated along East Sixth Avenue,” DeFelice said. “We encourage mindful parking practices and consideration for establishments that maintain their regular operating hours during the road closure period.”

The August market will offer a special Back to School highlight — the giveaway of backpacks and classroom supplies. Items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

“For over five years, the Tarentum Night Market has been a cornerstone of community engagement, strategically utilizing various locations, including Tarentum’s beautiful park,” DeFelice said. “Its mission has consistently been to bolster local businesses, foster community spirit and offer diverse entertainment, including live music and a vibrant array of food and craft vendors.”

Borough businesses are encouraged to participate in the three nights of celebration.
